Quick fix for Thrustmaster 16000 throttle

Recommended Posts

Hi just a quick CHEAP fix for the Thrustmaster 16000 throttles friction problem when moving the throttle forward and back. It's nothing flash or probably as good as the 3D printed part you can buy but if Ur short of cash like I am at the moment or you can't get hold of the printed part due to COVID or any other reason I found this worked quite well. It's surprisingly smooth to use now, and all for the price of a can of red bull, it literally gives you wings, or better take offs anyway lol

Firstly I cut down a can off red bull and then cut 2 strips to the size I needed.

Secondly I placed the two strips of tin inside the housing for the guide bars.

Thirdly I smeared vaseline all over the guide bars for lubricantation.

And then put everything back together.

Cheap, quick & easy leaving you with a buttery smooth action.

I don't know If something similar for the Thrustmaster 16000 has already been done but it just seemed like such an obvious fix to me so I thought I'd share..

Hope someone finds it useful ?

Interesting. Vaseline used as a lube. Who’da thought.

Nice mod ?

So far i used mtb fork juice (silicon spray) once or twice a year, no need to disassembly throttle, spray it through the slider hole with that tiny pipe for precise lubrication.

Im not certain what the redbull can is for, but I had the same issue with a horribly sticky throttle.

To solve this satisfactorily was an incremental process.

The first thing I felt that would improve the overall stability would be to conjoin the throttle and the stick on a single mount.  One hand stabilizes the other, not to mention the benefits of muscle memory with controllers always being in the same relation to eachother.

This is a piece of pine I got from home depot.  It's 1x10" and they'll give you a free cut.  I made mine at 24"

Underneath the throttle and the stick are two nuts each for mounting.  I believe they are M6 (definitely metric)

Home depot sells these, I think in useful packs of 3 (along with their washers) - they're anout 35mm long or just about an inch and a quarter

If you screw in the hardware to the base of the throttle and stick, then take a dry erase marker and mark up the head of the hardware, then place it where you want on the board, you'll get a pefect transfer of the bolt holes reqired for mounting it where and how you want it.

With the bottom off and the holes drilled for the throttle position, you can lay the disconnected bottom plate of the throttle on the wood board, drop the hard ware into the mounting holes and then you'll be able to scribe the location of the throttle tension adjustment screw.

The final piece of the equation was to update the lube, and I found that recommendation on here.

I found a 50g tube (lifetime supply) for $20 delivered off of amazon.

Once you remove the bottom plate of the throttle housing, you'll see two aluminum rods that the the thottle slides on.  Clean this with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel, then use a small stiff brush to apply the gel (it's really thick) to all surfaces, then reassemble.

You may have to back off the tension screw a bit as the gel is actually a dampening agent, it just does really well in this application to deliver smooth throttle movement.

Finally I mounted 4 little rubber feet in the corners of the board to lift it a bit so that my keyboard cord fits underneath when I have the controllers pushed back on my desk and they provide some added friction to keep the controllers stable.

Hope this helps

The red bull can is to cut a strip of smooth tin to place in side the plastic housing on the slider plate which the metal runners run on, metal on plastic creates, friction metal on metal, buttery smooth..

You have to remove the base of the throttle and remove the slider plate to do this fix, there's plenty of how to videos on youtube

Thanks =VARP=RIBBON ?

I'll have to have a look at that lubricant solution
