Carrier Command 2 from Microprose. I've been watching this for a while and picked it up on sale.

 

I never played the original but man, this is great. You command a aircraft carrier on an alien sea planet and objective of the game is to capture islands and beat the enemy carrier. Islands produce different items (units, ammo, fuel...) and unlock blueprints. You got couple of different types of planes and helicopters to use in aerial operations. Then you got also ground vehicles. Your carrier also has cruise missiles, torpedos, AA missiles and a naval gun battery. But if you haven't got the blueprints for correct ammo you will powerful guns will run short of juice quickly and you need to come up with alternate plans. 

 

I do recommend this one. So much fun to scout a island first with your drone circling above it. Fire a cruise missile at their hangar to destroy their planes. Then send attack craft with missiles to attack their ground vehicles. Finally finish the defenders with helicopter assault and ground vehicles.

 

The graphics are quite old school but it is very stylish. I like it a lot.

It is also in VR but I haven't tried that one yet.
