Thanks. I put up a link there. But it seems there's no interest so I think I'll delete them as it's kind of useless using them on my own, as nobody else obviously don't see them in multiplayer mode.

Dont ever get disheartened by what people download or dont. The skins are good. I think most users prefer most historical skins but that shouldnt deter you. Do them for your own pleasure not for others. If you have the interest and talent, skinning can be as big a part of enjoying the game as playing it.

It is, indeed a joy making them.

As I understand it, no one sees custom skins as long one has not downloaded it/them and it's in the skin folder, right?

Yeah thats right. But it shouldnt stop you making them. And it shouldnt stop you sharing them. 

 

In this generation of IL2 there is, I think,  a great love of historical or psuedo historical skins. I think perhaps the Flying circus chaps are a little more flambouyant but equally, this fits the time and most personailsed skins Ive seen are largly credible for the period.  People seem to dig the immersion of using and seeing period relevent work. Servers, some wih greater success than others, try to recreate historical scenarios too. Have a look around the forums and you will see the importance people place on historical accuracy. The general vibe is not really an esports/warzone one. 

 

Not making skins a swapable cache item means people have choices and can avoid potentially immersion breaking moments for them should they choose. In other games where this is possible I will avoid servers allowing personaisled skins simply because I dont want to be killed by a lurid pink and blue whatever with anime all over it (not saying your skins are over the top but the logo on the side will likely be something that may put people off). 

 

People can also be slow to download stuff. And even when they do, you may think "wow only X number". Truth is, not everyone is a skin collector and skin collectors dont collect every offering.  I rarely post skins publicly for various reasons but when i did, that was it. Post it, host it, forget about it. 

 

Make the skins for your own pleasure.

You may also get a single person download it, check it out and then distribute it to all their fellow squad mates so all you will see is 1 download but actually 20 people may be using it.
