Better upgrade your GPU first.

The overly excited flightsimdude achieve his "10% FPS gain" by using a lower resolution on the Aero.

At least, among all the praise, he mentioned once that the Aero has no motion reprojection. Which is correct.

When asked how he'd think 30fps was fine for flight sims when you're in combat, he basically mentioned that "flight sims were not combat flight sims." :dash:

Re: 10% gain. Given that the Aero does not apparently need an extra 50% more pixels to correct distortions I do not have any issue with flightsimdude running the Aero at it's native resolution as that is apparently all it needs.

Another reviewer also commented on the reduced load on the GPU with the Aero (Simhangar) but was not doing fps tests until the Varjo software was out of beta.  Several participants, in that discussion, comment on why the load on the GPU is lower for the Varjo Aero when compared to the Reverb G2.

Was ready to order, but what about this?

At checkout asks for company info and tax ID

It says Varjo products can only be purchased for business use only.

This is while trying to order online using my iPhone.

You chose the wrong option when you selected the headset.

Go back and make sure you choose the home option rather than business.

Why cry?

If it does not work out I'll just send it back and get the full amount of money back. But you Americans are somewhat crazy, ordering this without actually knowing what to expect..

- What if there's still no proper Motion Smoothing available - perpendicularly flying aircrafts will throw shadows/trail ghosting.

- What if we get a warped picture in IL-2 like with the Vive Pro 2?

Since you mentioned FlightSimGuy, let's remember he tested the Vive Pro 2 in IL-2 and didn't even notice the strong warp --- because he never tilts his head. He has no credibility whatsoever. His videos are extremely non technical and unstructured. He delivers a lot of positivistic content about new headsets we drool about, but at the same time that content is extremely bad, and just a lot of talking and woah and amazing and clarity and this and that - for all headsets one after the other.

That's why I'm worried about you guys from the US ordering it --- if there's any bit of malfunction, incompatibility, or any IL-2 shenanigans, us Euros can send them back. Even after opening and testing them for 2 weeks. But you guys would be stuck with it, and can't even properly transmit warranty and/or guarantee (is there a differentiation in the US?) when selling it second hand, right?

Well, I hope it turns out fine, of course.

Congrats on your orders guys, I hope it all works out and turns out to be a great headset.

I am in the market for my first VR headset but this one is outside of my price range for now.

I've got to upgrade my CPU/RAM/MOBO etc first and then the GPU.... But who knows, if the Varjo turns out to be as good as it seems, I might pick one up in the 2nd half of 2022.

@Luke - Hopefully you're getting some commission from all the orders placed based on this thread... it must be over 10k's worth of orders at this stage!  ?

We're not ordering 2400€ = 2700$ device based on someone else ordering it mate, but because of the technical and optical specs we have heard about.

At this price range I can imagine the people will be highly critical.

It basically must be 2000$ better than the G2.

And since the rumors about Valve exiting VR Hardware have been founded to be just some guy bullshitting (Valve replied directly), we can expect another Index probably next year or the following, probably with the same speakers, LH tracking, improved lenses and screens as well as wireless. So with the Varjo Aero we're basically paying for the aspheric lenses and to have the next-gen a year earlier.

I'm not at all suggesting that anyone here is ordering it "just because someone else is",  perhaps you've misinterpreted as that?

From reading the specs, it seems like it will be a great headset. Time will tell i guess. I agree it would want to be pretty special for its price point.

LOL, it should actually be my anonymous friend who should be getting a commission - I didn't even know about Varjo, much less any of their VR headsets, before I mentioned to him I was finally going to buy my first VR headset a few weeks ago. ? Then it was like, "hmm, this Aero thing sounds really cool." ?

So, what's wrong with that? If it turns out to be worth it, well, then it was worth the hype. If not, not a big deal. Remember, it was quite a few years before head tracking a la TrackIR finally matured enough that it wasn't a pain to get working properly and in 6DOF.

Well they should at least give you a couple of free face plates! ?

I've held out on VR for so long now as I've been waiting for a headset to really nail it...Sounds like the Varjo might be the one, fingers crossed it will tick all the boxes. Looking forward to all you guys giving your thoughts on it when it arrives.

I am happy to see that many VP2 and G2 took the train of the Aero. I will be very much interested in their feedback, which will not be incentived.

My main concern is not the price but FOV. I can not accept anything below Index.

The through lens capture is this:

Hi Chilliwilli69.

The latest thinking or reason given for the Varjo Aero having better fps is as follows....

Snipped from the last Youtube video Iink chat forum that I posted.

image.png.ab57c8af9ca3f76d07431a79c78c502d.png

I am not an optical engineer or VR software developer so cannot claim that this is the definitive/correct reason. Does seem to be a pretty reasonable answer though based the results obtained for the two Youtube video's that I have seen testing MSFS.  Note that in the SIMHANGAR review that he is now CPU bound when testing the Aero whereas with the G2 he is typically GPU bound.  I did a calculation based on the above being correct (at 100% SS) and the GPU had to render 25% more pixels when connected to the G2.

Re: FOV not wide enough for you.  Fair enough, we all have different priorities. For me clarity and higher fps top my list of desirable VR headset attributes.

If I can get a 10% increase in average fps over my current G2 I will be very pleased as that will put me back to 90Hz for IL2.

Well don't you worry about me one little bit. My statement on cry was made in jest.

I am sure I will be just fine however it goes. Trust me on that one. And I certainly would never send something back just for the hell of it either. And yes there is such a thing as warranties here also.

If you picked Index over Reverb G2 only because of FOV, then probably Aero would not be for you. For me I can't handle Index in flight sims after having Reverb G2 and Vive Pro 2. There just is no comparison. I will take image clarity any day over FOV myself. I believe Aero will be slightly better than Reverb G2 on horizontal but not as good as Index on horizontal, but no where close on vertical to Index. Overall FOV of Index will still be considerable over all the others except Pimax.

But I do believe Aero is going to have an incredible image quality even stuff off out in a distance. I personally think this is where it will really shine.

I will say though for Half Life Alyx, Index is the way to go. That game really shines in that headset - go figure lol.

Something I dont like is the warranty, 1 year after placing the order, instead of after shipping or delivery, and its going to take 3 to 4 months to ship, so at the end it will only be 8 to 9 months warranty.

Pre order warranty should take into account those months.

Yeah right that does not make sense. Most warranty's do not start until the product has been actually sent to the customer.

Edit: Also wouldn't the date purchased be the date we actually pay for the device?

CommissionGuy didn't convince me.

I've talked to MRTV and NewVRTech, two German VR YouTubers from Dortmund who got the Varjo Aero.

I would have tested it already if my schedule would have allowed it, and if there wasn't a tragic case of illness in one of the guy's families (Corona is something they can't use right now).

By European law the warranty starts with delivery. Contract starts with both parties of a contract declaring their will. They declare their will by shipping the headset, which is why they only charge then - by law you do not carry any obligations until then contact us valid and declared for by both. This sounds like appropriate acting, much in contrast to Pimax (!!!). Hence I can imagine that Varjo were just unclear on the matter.

Please write then an E-Mail to Varjo and I am certain they will clarify the matter.

After their response, it would be good to ask them in a follow-up E-Mail to modify the bit on their website, and publish your E-Mail here so we can copy and paste the same request.

I placed my order on Saturday and so far I have not received an email.

I emailed them with my order number telling them 48 hrs have passed and have not received an email confirming my order, so waiting for their confirmation and then will ask about warranty for  pre orders.

Saturday and Sunday people don't work. 6th of December is Santa Claus day. This is Europe ;)

I wouldn't worry, they probably just didn't set those up yet. Law beats contracts here. Pimax headsets have up to 2 years of warranty in Germany, no matter what Pimax writes into their ruleset. There's a guy who was at his sixth 5K+ within 2 years, he's famous on the Reddit and Facebook group:lol:

Hahaha. Not paying for "that" service, right? But reliable and qualitative and upholds law and promises.

Much to the contrary of criminal Chinese Pimax that broke quite a few German and European laws in the past and behaved like scumbags on too many occasions.

Pimax are horrible and dishonest, the day I cancelled my order (after months of wait and lies) they shipped the headset.

I did not even opened the box when it arrived and return it for a refund, I had no interest in dealing with that kind of people.

I am glad I did.

You can be sure to be glad!! That's typical for the Shenanigans and borderline criminal behavior they pull.

They falsely processed taxes on my 8KX and asked users (and me) to pay fees again PLUS a processing fees, or would have to disable the headset. They could do that remotely...!! it was a big scandal. Nobody is talking about it anymore, and all informations in channels they had control over have been wiped - just a few news items remain.

Nowadays, they have lost control over the Pimax Reddit Channel and others. The heavily censored discussion forums which remain are the newly created Pimax_Official, Facebook Group, and OpenMR forums. If you browse these three forums, you will be thrown into Pimax own swimming pool. There's only positivity and pure amazement there!

Wake up calls disappear as quietly and quickly as they appear.

Have not actually reached the over spending stage where I need to sell off the motor bikes so they are still safe at present.

This is despite the wife "negotiating"  a kitchen equipment upgrade out of me when I owned up to ordering the Varjo Aero :cray:

Now back to what is parked in the shed, have a:

1954 BMW R67/2 that is older than I am and has the old style Pagusa tractor seat fitted.

1992 BMW R80

1995 BMW R100 RT, last of the aircooled models.

These are all air cooled Boxer twin motors so you may notice a bit of a theme going.

Had an itch for the R90S but never followed through on that.

In response to Fenris's question. Nope, not the  "FlightSimGuy" but I am developing/ reigniting my passion for flight sims.

Lol it is an addiction I tell ya, an addiction!!

VR is the devil!!

My wife is now fussing at me about my office area (which is in the garage for crying out loud). She is like what are all these cables for and why don't you clean this up.  I told her as soon as I get the Aero and if it goes well I will be selling all these other headsets to get them out of here lol.
