Deltahawkoz Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Noticing Quest 2 on special..and thinking of dipping my toes in the vr waters..have amd 5700..amd ryzen 5 3500..plus 32 gig ram..would il2 be doable on this rig? Also play DCs but that seems a whole different beast...currently I use track ir plus a 144 hz 24 " monitor..very good frame rates there...thanks so in advance

It depends of what you would consider "doable" and what settings you will run (Quest2 at 72Hz vs 90Hz, Supersampling ratio, IL-2 graphics settings) If you try to run the Quest2 at 90Hz, 100%SS and max IL-2 graphics, then your rig will be far to reach 90fps. You will be alwasys in reprojection zone (45fps) or even lower. If you run the Quest at 72Hz, 60%SS and the lowest settings of IL-2, you most likely will not reach 72fps always. You will be frequently in the repro zone. But it will give you a glimpse of what is VR (just the view, not the performance), so you might decide if you like it or not. Then, if you like it you will need definetely to upgrade your rig, both CPU and GPU wise. The AMD GPUs are problematic with IL-2, they have an issue. The Ryzen 3000 series have not a good performance either.
Patricks Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 I just sent my Quest 2 back, clarity was not there even on my rig. Tried 100 different settings/tips/videos, and the outside world (planes especially) were just never a crisp image. The cockpit was cool, but looking outside not so much.. G2 arrived yesterday, absolutely "better" but still not good enough, but have not tuned it yet.. hopefully today.
Deltahawkoz Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 Thanks for the replies. I am going to skip on VR, as much as I would like to have a crack. Looking at your rigs, you have substantially more horsepower than I and have been frank with your impressions, cheers
