JV44HeinzBar Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) S!, I regularly make long drives into enemy territory. It can be tedious, but challenging, too. You have to keep a constant vigil on the sky, while scouting the road ahead. Last night I drove well over 50km, starting attacking the #2 rear depot. It didn't take long for the enemy to send a patrol that way. First it was an IL2 loaded w/ cassettes, I think. I was already in a good position of cover, not the best, but good. He probably flew around me for at least 5 minutes before the 2nd plane showed up. This plane was a hurricane armed w/40mm. These are pretty easy to spot since the guns extend so far past the wing. These two flew in opposing circles, varying their height at times trying to spot me. They tried the old trick of flying away, but coming back in a couple of minutes. This tactic works, I've seen people fall for it many times. Tankers make the mistake that they're clear because they can't hear the plane and start to move out or begin firing again. This is what these tank killers want you to do. I think, I've spent nearly 2 hours driving, shooting & destroying targets, I can afford to wait. I posted below sorties from the past 2 nights. These are the longest sorties that I remembered to record. I was fortunate that I wasn't seen, nor took any AI sniper hits. Post your longest drives. HB Edit: the red lines are not my actual path. I put them down to see the roads I took to get to the target. 2nd map: I cut across country in the PzV shorten the time to target ~ 20km/hr cross country. Na-zdorovie Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Dam, must say that's pretty cool, I regularly do this on SP and its real cool to see how long you can last, but on MP congrats mate, born killer lol
Leady_Brickov Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) Nice work! Hey here's a tip for newer tankers (not the OP as he sounds like he knows what he's doing), firing HE is much safer when there are player aircraft around. It has no tracer and won't give your location away (pilots back track along the tracer trail to spot you). It also does much more damage to static objects like buildings. My longest drive was 35min to wipe out an enemy artillery position on Finnish ? Edited November 21, 2021 by Leady_Brickov Adding stuff 1
SYN_Ricky Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Once on Finnish VP I drove a Sherman for nearly one hour to Taman in order to attack a temporary airfield. I feared to be attacked by aircrafts all the way down there, often stopping and hiding to let some plane pass over me. I arrived in Taman and started driving precautiously towards the airfield, using buildings to hide. Of course, as soon as I saw the first hangars, a gun fired on me and disabled my track. I couldn't see it, and it kept firing at me from time to time while I was immobilized trying to repair. In the end, as I was getting more damage, I took the commander's 50 cal and managed to shoot and damage some planes that were landing and taking off, until a Bf-110 came and destroyed me....it was quite fun but not really worth it in the end, something I wouldn't do very often. I had more success with shorter drives attacking front depots.
[KG]Destaex Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) I have driven for 1hr before in the finish server. 99% of that on a road trying to get to a VP. You get so used to being efficient with speed that you sometimes forget to stop and deploy properly at that crucial final corner. Also the PzIV is horrible on long drives. You have to frequently manage the engine because otherwise it overheats. Edited November 22, 2021 by [KG]Destaex
moustache Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 it's true that missions like that can be funny sometimes, but there are too many objectives on this server (tank side) and suddenly, it dilutes the players, which means that we end up in the end at no longer "solo" on a multiplayer server ... and as the AI is not always very responsive, it can get quite boring ...
NoelGallagher Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) i can only drive up to 30min after that i can't stand it with overwhelming feeling of boredom Edited November 22, 2021 by NoelGallagher

ShampooX Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 My longest Drive was about 320 yards. To the green. Par 4. 1
JV44HeinzBar Posted November 22, 2021 Author Posted November 22, 2021 S!, We typically attack the front lines as it's closer and that helps move the front quicker. However, if the depots or stations are within an hours drive ~ 30km, we'll attack them as they are high value targets and a lot less dangerous. You may have to deal with a single AT gun, but the depots/stations are not really defended well from tanks. Last night, we did a little bit of both. In sector one, we concentrated on the front line, skirting south by crossing the bridge and avoiding their tank spawn. Once across the bridge, they could do little to stop us except for the occasional fighter/bomber. These were usually no issue since we actually had some fighter cover for a change. The map rotated and we drove an hour & 20 min to the #1 front depot in sector 2. Four of us, 2 pzV, 1 pzIV, & pzIII, took out the depot completely. It took us longer than normal as we had to drive cross country through forest get to the target. We got lost a couple of times as the hills and forest made navigation extremely difficult. We got some help from a squad mate that flew a fighter near us. We sent up some flares from our location and he gave us the correct bearing to target. It may be boring at times driving on the road, frustrating to navigate the deep forest & hills, but in the end, IMHO, it's worth it. BTW, it was nice seeing Shampoo & Noel online in FVP. HB 1

Drim Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 About 2 hours, first time on Finnish server. Because I got lost and did an accidental long flank
