flare_alfred Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 hi, How do I measure the distance to an enemy tank with a full real server? .. Please let me know if there is a site or information that explains how to use it. thank you.
JV44HeinzBar Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 S!, It kinda varies between the gun sight & binoculars. This would be a good starting place for you. I created a small cheat sheet which you can add to your tank while driving. You'll find it here: HB 2 3
JimTM Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) Here is a video from I Fly Central: Also, Thad has created Tank Firing Practice Ranges. There is more tank information under "Tank and AAA Vehicle Guides" in the Il-2 Resources post. Edited November 21, 2021 by JimTM 2

Spinnetti Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I find that in time, experience is the fastest way to get a shell on target. Finally weaning myself off icons, and even adjusting range. After a while, you will be able to estimate range and elevation on sight alone. Been surprising myself lately on getting a fair number of hits in the 800-1500m range first shot.
MajorMagee Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I know that I have the feel of a tank's gunnery system when I start getting the amount of lead on a 90 degree crossing target right. You have to factor in both the range delay for your round to get there, and estimate how fast they're moving, which looks different with range. The toughest shot is when the target is moving at a diagonal either toward or away from you since you have to get both the reduced lead and the changing range estimates correct as you take the shot. (Like firing a torpedo from a submarine, but with much less time to set up the shot.) My closest analogy to the skill required is playing quarterback in American Football. After years of playing as a kid I was able to drop a pass into the hands of the receiver running just about any route without even thinking about it anymore.
