They don’t.  You probably got between an AI gunner and an enemy aircraft.  Then they will shoot through you.  Just like what happened a lot in real life.

I have no idea what you’re laughing at.  The AI doesn’t shoot at friendlies.  It’s actually a good was to ID aircraft.  If friendly AI is shooting at them, that means they’re bad guys.

This is sort of like a pedestrian who walks in front of a moving truck in a crosswalk. You’re right, but you’re still dead.  
 

Also, friendly fire was quite common in WW2.  So it’s realistic.

Yes, I am a competitive shooter, altho I'm not too competitive........? I shoot Cowboy Action in the summer, and in the fall I am a hunter. I forget that gun ownership is not common around the world, forgive me.........

Yes here in Germany owning a gun is considered to be almost as dangerous as driving a car
