how do u communicate using in game chat online

As the title states, if on line dogfighting and I get shot down ( very regular)

 what key do I press to type lets say salute, actual key bindings say enter to transmit message to all but what key do I press to type the message

The first time you press Enter you will active your chat. Write the message, press enter again and it's done

you can also press ctrl+enter to talk only to your team. open chat with enter, type message, send message with ctrl+enter. just hitting enter sends it to both sides
