Anyway good find, very nice video.
I like how they talk casually without any uneeded discipline, they seem like all professionals that are there to do their job and not just salute their superior ranks.

I have always noticed that the more an organization, military or otherwise,  views itself as elite the more casual they are.  In the case of pilots, they are highly trained, specialized soldiers.  To do their job they must be able to act individually while still operating as a team.  Rigid formality is not conducive to this sort of job requirement.  Where rigid hierarchy does work is when you have only a few skilled people and you are trying to wrestle a mob of unskilled people into something resembling a cohesive unit (think medieval peasants in a pike formation).

 

Note to managers out there: think about the kind of team you are managing.  If it is a skilled team, back off.  Best manager I have ever worked for was not really all that involved moment to moment.  he did, however, lay out clear guidelines as to the expected standards.  How we got there was up to us.  Back to pilots, it is my bet that the best squadron leaders gave their pilots a lot of leeway as to how to do the job.  That kind of environment requires communication and not dictation.
