[KG]Destaex Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Almost finished reading Panzer Destroyer, Memoirs of a red army tank commander by Vasiliy Krysov. In this book one part especially stuck me. That was that when they encountered a convoy of Trucks and half tracks in their two su85 tank destroyers, they chose to crush most of them or knock them off the road, only using their guns sparingly. Does il2 tank crew have any physics model that anybody has noticed for driving over trucks or soft skinned vehicles? Something I have not really tested in il2.
JV44HeinzBar Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 S! I've tried that tactic vs static trucks. You can destroy them if you go really, really slow, IIRC. However, if you go too fast, you'll damage your tank. The same thing goes for most static objects, e.g. hay stacks HB
[KG]Destaex Posted November 16, 2021 Author Posted November 16, 2021 I see. Would have been cool to see the Tank do a monster truck on a command car
Frinik22 Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 Be careful what you wish for. Tanks in video games have no effective weight. In many games tanks can flip over just driving over a stump or a tree branch. I remember playing i 44 the WW2 mod made for Arma 2 and I tried crushing a US AT gum with my Panther and my tank just flipped over and I had to restart the mission as my character ejected form the tank and got killed by enemy AI. In other sims too I had tank skidding over obstacles because they were weightless in practical terms.
[KG]Destaex Posted November 17, 2021 Author Posted November 17, 2021 As the flier keep saying. This is a simulator that has physics not human behavioural mechanics Of course it will just naturally work with what exists currently.
