Hello,

I recently got an Oculus Quest 2 and been having a ton of fun with it, especially with IL2 GB series. However, I do wonder if there is anything I can do to get a sharper picture.

I fly the Bf 110 series quite a bit, and one thing I notice for example is that it is often impossible for me to identify the position of the red triangle on my flaps indicator.

1: Is this normal/expected with a headset like the Quest 2 (I know it's not top of the line)?
2: If not, where could I find more information on how to calibrate my settings to address it?

Thanks a ton in advance and many thanks to the devs for the amazing game.

Cheers,

Surtur

You can set the resolution higher in the Oculus app, or in steamvr.

Also if you download the oculus debug tool, you can turn off Async Spacewarp.

And turn on Link sharpening.

Depending on GPU you can tweak ingame settings too.

I like MSAA x2 best for balance between sharpness and blurryness.

But there is many more settings you can do to tweak, like setting resolution ingame to a very low number (it actually helps for some FPS, so you can set resolution higher in steamvr or oculus.)

Personally i also use Opencomposite instead of SteamVR, it felt a bit better for me.

This guy knows a lot about setting up a Quest 2:

I don't know about changing any settings but I've been flying a Rift and recently got the Quest 2 with cable.  Only noticed a very slight improvement with the Q2 but I suspect that's because my GPU is minimal to begin with.

Point being: without changing settings; and using the same computer: the Q2's improvement over the original CL1 isn't very much at all.  A little brighter and a little less screen door; but still not dazzling and still screeny.

My wife likes it for wireless operation on her YAW (it's hers because I'm too big for it) but I'm sticking with the Rift for a while.

Thanks again for all the advice. I managed to get better results with the tips above.

I think your suspicion about being GPU bottlenecked is accurate. On my PC there is a massive difference in clarity between the CV1 and the Q2. But I can imagine that at minimum settings it wouldn't be that impressive.

Though I have a 3080ti. I run IL 2at 1.5x supersampling which is a sweet spot for me. I miss the OLED display of the CV1, but resolution, 120hz refresh rate and link sharpening make it a far superior headset for me.

Keep in mind that the oculus debug tool has changed a bit in the recent updates.

I've found that keeping most settings at default and just changing the lower bit rate offset to about 200 has resulted it the clearest image with no compression artefacts.

Yep.  I was only running a i5 6050 with a 1050ti; minimal for CV1.  You've got a 3080ti; WAY more GPU.  (y)
