Tab Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 S! There is not a single source saying early La-5 in service was going 550km/h at SL. If we follow the analogy seen here the La-5FN will go 582km/h at SL because TsAGI said so with their specially prepared plane. There are enough info that TsAGI did prepare the planes with polishing and other things, not using combat equipment etc. thus getting far better results. NII VVS tested same plane with combat load(fuel, ammo and such) and got like 40km/h slower planes than TsAGI. Oh well. Let's see how things are at release. There are even some sources claiming 600 km/h at SL for La-5 with M-82A. It was a factory prototype of course - polished (Luftwaffe did it to btw) with reference engine and so on (but of course fully loaded). Source is ""Авиация и время/ Победитель" /№ 5, 2006 г., Сергей Мороз/", excepts can be found here: http://www.airpages.ru/ru/la5.shtml And it was really one of the first series, that had some problems with long WEP usage, which was solved later on. Another source with 555 km/h at SL is already mentioned in this thread...
FlatSpinMan Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Great post, Feathered. Really made me laugh out loud. I have no idea about the truth of the claim. Presumably someone there thought about it before submitting that info.
Brano Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Besides, 20 dollars is an incredibly high price tag for a plane that is already done before the game is even released tbh... Well,20 dollar is pretty much fair price for such aircraft with its level of CEM.Comparing to 40 dollars ED asking for Dora and with its higher level of CEM,price is OK.There is nothing else you can compare to on actual flightsim market.
Pringliano Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) Well, from the standpoint of someone coming from the world of civil flightsims, $19,90 is a gift, not a price tag ! I believe I never bought so inexpensive high quality add-ons like those I already bought for Rise of Flight, and plan to continue buying for IL2 BOS! P.S.: The La5 is a charm to fly, adn right now that I was really becoming an LaGG3 fan... But it takes training to maneuver it the best way... Tricky landings... Always make them at 3 points preferably... Edited July 8, 2014 by jcomm
Zak Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 La-5 is the fastest Soviet plane in the game. Yes, we made a typo and an important piece turned out missing. We'll fix the text during the day today. 4
Sternjaeger Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 La-5 is the fastest Soviet plane in the game. Yes, we made a typo and an important piece turn out missing. We'll fix the text during the dday today. look, I don't mean to teach you how to do marketing, but couldn't you guys come with something better than that statement? We know it's not true anyway, but aren't there better features to highlight than a misleading statement about its speed?
Saurer Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Wasn't it called the "Wooden Savior of Stalingrad", at least i read it in German serverl times?
Nage Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) La-5 is the fastest Soviet plane in the game. Yes, we made a typo and an important piece turn out missing. VikingFjord Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) i was sure the fastest fighter during the war in russa was the 262..i might be wrong and the Fw190 D models where very fast tooi dont have the full view of every plane in that war so i dont want to makes claims.. Edited July 8, 2014 by VikingFjord
arjisme Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 They didn't claim it is the fastest plane in the war.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Nope, And ~S Zak, It lead to a very lively argument. I'll pay $19.99 just for that.
Zak Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 LOL Zak youve made a lot of mess with that typo hihi BTW, Yak 1 was slightly faster climber hihi Great, you're welcome. La-5 is indeed the fastest Soviet fighter in the game in horizontal flight. Also note that our forum community gathers almost everyone who cares about La-5 or Yak-1 manifold pressure, flaps angles and so on. But we also hope to attract those who mostly care about speed and other simplier terms. 2
VikingFjord Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 They didn't claim it is the fastest plane in the war. They said it was the fastest plane in the game..so either they say 262 isnt coming or they say its faster then 262
Nage Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Great, you're welcome. La-5 is indeed the fastest Soviet fighter in the game in horizontal flight. Thats true. But we also hope to attract those who mostly care about speed and other simplier terms. I understand that. But I think that most of your customers are ex Il2 46 and ROF players. Anyways, recently you started to listen to your "hardcore" ("hardcore" simmers if we can call them that way) part of the BOS community and thats a good sign for sure.
kendo Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) They said it was the fastest plane in the game..so either they say 262 isnt coming or they say its faster then 262 Or...it could just be that because the 262 isn't actually in the game NOW....at this specific point in time...and hasn't even been announced as even a glimmer in anyone's imagination ....and probably won't be in the sequel....which they also haven't even announced yet.....that they didn't really foresee someone joining 2 and 2 together to come up with a very unreasonable 47... Flightsim fans.... You know, sometimes I wish that the devs here (and also maybe in Clod back in the day) would just have had a bit of a discussion amongst themselves, taken a vote and then made an announcement on the forums to say that because of all the unreasonable and unjustifiable crap and BS and rubbish that they have decided they just can't be bothered anymore, life's too short, the sim's cancelled and we've decided to take up a quiet life yak-farming in Mongolia... BraveSirRobin Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Parsing through every word of the advertising material looks like lots of fun. 1
Livai Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Yes, it is marketing but this not " Never let an enemy plane gain an altitude advantage over you and you will win the fight" The price for each premium plane was clear since last year (September 2013).
Georgio Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Personally I'd more rather trade some turning for top speed anyways. Also if the fastest axis plane is faster, then it's hardly marketing...^^
JG4_Sputnik Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Guys marketing is just marketing - it lives from it's simple punch lines. Its for people who are on the fence and may not have that much knowledge of the materia anyway. It's alright I think, even though for myself I'd rather see more detailed statements even marketing-wise. But the more "casuals" come in and fly the more "our" hardcore sim is going to be cross-granted with their money. Which is always good
Wind Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Flightsim fans.... The challenge kicks in when you have a Team : The Devs, The Producers and The Financers. Marketing department is usually the bastard child that works under the pressure of financers, under the hammer of producers and under the wrath of the developers. Nothing is unholy when it comes down to make a nickle and make things turn in a revenue. And ad to that the normal (mis)communication between all the different departments and you usually have a Gong Show going on. But in this particular instance, flight sims of WW2 era, we all should hope that things end up on the + side. There is a community to do some the extra stuff if we have a engine to build it upon...just like IL-2. That is if we get enough old players, old lurkers and new people to buy the product. That is all that matters. Money = Future. Guys marketing is just marketing - it lives from it's simple punch lines. Its for people who are on the fence and may not have that much knowledge of the materia anyway. But the more "casuals" come in and fly the more "our" hardcore sim is going to be cross-granted with their money. Which is always good This. The most important thing is to make sure that the dev team has enough money to keep things rolling (vodka, redbull, rent, strippers) so we get a good product out and fresh new people to buy it. That gives us a future. Hell, if you actually want Bad marketing, check out Pepsodent toothpaste...for Men! Like for **** seriously? Edited July 9, 2014 by Wind
Rjel Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 You know, sometimes I wish that the devs here (and also maybe in Clod back in the day) would just have had a bit of a discussion amongst themselves, taken a vote and then made an announcement on the forums to say that because of all the unreasonable and unjustifiable crap and BS and rubbish that they have decided they just can't be bothered anymore, life's too short, the sim's cancelled and we've decided to take up a quiet life yak-farming in Mongolia... Well, if that's all it took to discourage someone from doing his/her job, we'd all be up the creek. I'm sure some comments really piss off someone or even a bunch of someones in the development team, but even if they absolutely love what they do, in the end it's a job. Likely a job they chose because they enjoyed it, they were good at it and it looked like a decent way to make a living. Really not a lot different than any of us chose whatever career we have. I'd guess most of the developers couldn't really care less what the majority of us think as long as we buy their product. That is the essence of any business.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Well, the OP has actually been answered a while ago and we are starting to get a little tangential. It was great fun, thanks Feathered - good arguing, thanks all - but it's probably time to lock it as it is now.
