Why won't my German Tanks move?

Help please.  Everything is ok using Soviet and American tanks starting/moving/stopping etc, but as soon as I get into a German Tank, I cannot get it to move. The engine starts, but that's all. I have tried all the positions etc, still nothing.  No changes to key settings either, what could be the issue?

All I do is press E and wait for the engine to finish starting. Then press up arrow (the small arrows not WASD) to move the beast.

Do you have any other controllers plugged in that could be interfering? I know it is just the German ones which is really strange.

Another huge problem I find is that key bindings often conflict with each other because each station has different key bindings but they seem to work across stations as well. So if you change any of the keys at all they could be conflicting with other keys from other vehicles or even the general key make up of the over arching common key commands. I know you did not change any keys... but just in case you have ANY keys changed from aircraft all the way across the tanks. They all seem to affect each other.

If you’re on Steam, try verifying local files incase you’re missing some files. If you’re not on Steam, reinstall the game once you’ve run out of other possible solutions.

On the bright side, the Tiger, Panther, and Ferdinand were notorious for breaking down, especially during the Battle of Kursk. So you can still have a realistic German tank experience.

Thanks guys for your replies. I suspect it is a key conflict somewhere. I have since discovered that when I close the hatch the tank moves, but as soon as I  open the hatch for a better view it stops! That means it will only proceed with the slit view. Only a problem in German tanks...totally weird.

During Kursk the Panther did. Lack of reliability of German tanks was a myth for some. Check the video below:

Cheers, I’ll check it out when I have time. Always good to learn something new :)

German tanks (all of them IIRC) can't be driven with the driver's hatch open, as they couldn't in real life.

Good point. I think their are photos of them doing that.

Some of them might have been driven with the driver hatch open in non combat situation...

yeah you can't drive in TC with the driver hatch open.  Driving with commander hatch open is a better view anyway and he has the only set of binos in the whole tank.  If's he's dead drive with the funker hatch open.

honestly my mind is utterly confused

but i was once there too

and not everyone ought to know that

maybe dev's should improve the instruction

early german tanks were not drivable with the hatch open except ferdinand

but later model of panther tank had special modification that enable the driver to operate the vehicle while the hatch is open

As suspected it ended up being a mapped key conflict and realising that you can only drive with the hatch open in German Tanks in the 'Commander' view. Thanks to all for their advice and commentary. S!

With the exception of the Panzer III, you can also drive looking out of the radio operator's hatch, which gives you almost the same view, you would have looking out of the driver's hatch, just from the right bow hatch instead of the left one.

When using the Panzer III or IV, you could even go to the gunner's position and look out of the hatch at the left turret side. You can even look over the turret to the right side, which, in the Panzer IV doesn't correspond with the external view, but that's another book.
