First contact with IL-2 Great Battles (Bodenplatte)

Hello everyone! My name is Flavio, from Rome (Italy) and I am a new virtual pilot of IL-2 having bought "Great Battles: Bodenplatte" yesterday.
I just tried the simulator with a 1-1 fight between a Spitfire MkIX and a Bf-109G-14. As has happened with other simulators, I understand that it takes time and practice to gain experience ... however, there are aspects that, for now, do not convince me.
First of all, I don't understand why there isn't a no-cockpit view. I understand this is a blasphemy for purists, but turning this view on and off would make someone happy without angering anyone. For me (and I don't think I'm the only one) it is more fun (and less frustrating) to have a full view that allows me to make some nice shots with deflection.
Furthermore, my controller is the Saitek X-55 (stick & throttle) and, with my great surprise, I was unable to assign the trim buttons (trim pitch / yaw / roll)!!! Simply, I tried to assign (from time to time) all those proposed in the key binding menu containing the word "trim" and ... there was never any effect on the trim in game (sigh!).
Can any "good soul" please suggest to me which keyboard command group to assign to the buttons on the stick to get finally the trim (pitch & yaw)? Thanks in advance.
More, I have the TrackIR 5. I don't understand why it doesn't work to bring the view closer (again due to the problem related to the view obstructed by the cockpit). The rotation is ok, but not the near and far view. Why?
No built-in editor. I have read that there is an editor as an external program, but I haven't tried it yet. Thanks to an integrated editor, you could quickly create acclimatization and practice missions (which, however, I did not find in the program).
I also own DCS World and, inevitably, I have made the comparison. The few flaws I found are due to aspects present in DCS World and not in IL-2 Great Battles. I hope that these flaws, especially that of the trim, are due to my inability to overcome them. However, apart from these small difficulties, the product is truly remarkable and, if these small flaws can be overcome, I will certainly buy other chapters of the Great Battles. A greeting!

You likely need to bind "Stabilizer" adjustments, in addition to "Trim".  Depending on what the aircraft you fly are equipped with.. trim tabs vs variable incidence stab.. you need to bind both.

Like Syphen mentioned, when flying the Bf 109 or the FW 190, you need to set Stabilizer trim instead of elevator trim, as in both aircrafts it was the complete horizontal stabilizer, which was moved by trimming. And this is the only trim option both aircrafts have available.

For the Spitfire the default trim settings should work. Just make sure, you selected trim axes, not buttons. Trim buttons only works for aircrafts which were trimmed with a button instead of a wheel, like the FW 190.

Another tip, you can set both trim elevator and trim stabilizer to the same axis on your stick, as no aircraft has both.

Welcome to il2 world

there is a "wonder woman" view I believe that may provide what you want but I have no idea how to get it.

You dont say which planes have trim issues for you. As syphen and yogiflght say for trim there are "axis", "buttons" and "stabilizer" game settings. These refer to the aircraft control - not what you wish to use on your joystick which can cause confusion. However, no plane has both axis and buttons for trim, and stabiliser are limited to LW planes so these can all be pretty much tha same controls. But if you are trying to use a analogue axis on your joystick for a plane that had "buttons" ie fw190 it wont work. But you do need to set all the axis, button and stabilizer in game settings. Do not leave an axis control setting for instance empty because you are only using buttons on the joystick. Else (almost) none of the allied planes will trim (cos they used a trim wheel).

Trackir, are you asking for it to "zoom", there is an in game zoom function that works fine similar to how it can be used in dcs(I even have the same setup on both to use it).

There is an external editor, the install should have automatically given a keyboard short cut to it, but it takes some work. No inbuilt editor but the QMB has additional icons to provide more advanced missions that you cn adjust to your liking

Hello everyone!

For TrackIR, you will probably have to play with the curves a bit to find settings that give you the response in all aspects of movement that you like. When I used TrackIR I preferred a straight line to a curve, so that the response was consistent.  For some movements, like turning my head, I might have used a "multiplier" of 2 or 3,bit for side to side, up and down, and forward and backward movement it might have been as high as 5 or 6.  Once it is dialed in, TrackIR is fantastic.  I only stopped using it because I picked up VR.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Just a quick note - when switching from one sim to another it is easy to miss something. We tend to notice when something we're used to is missing (or simply different), but not notice right away the new features that our starting sim didn't have.

So I'd suggest experimenting a lot to learn what each sim does better than the other!
