ShampooX Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 (edited) Here's what I'm running and I kind of like it, but wonder if there might be better ideas among the crew. I'm not a terribly tech savvy guy I have a decent gaming computer but nothing super high powered. So my "why" is "I really don't know." I've searched a bit on the forums but it's mainly to do with flying set ups. Base config: ULTRA Screen res: 2560x1440 Shadows : High Mirrors: Simple Distant Landscape X3 Canopy: Off Horizon Draw: 70KM Landscape Filter: Sharp Terrain Roughness: Medium Grass Quality: Ultra Clouds Quality: Medium Antialiasing Type: FXAA Target FPS: 60 Dynamic Resolution: 0.9 Antialiasing: 4 Gamma Correction: 1 Right Side Checkmarks: Fullscreen, SSAO, HDR, What can be done better? SCG_judgedeath3 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I just play with default settings and graphics to max on everything. 1
Frinik22 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 (edited) Usually for most games I play , for example Arma3, they recommend turning down draw distance as it consumes a lot of resources both graphic and cpu and lowers your fps. Why do you need a horizon draw of 70 klicks and and distant lanscapes X 3? This makes sense if you are playing the aircraft sim version of IL2 but as a tank commandant do you need to see that far ? You would probably benefit by turning down horizon draw to 20 kilometres and distant landscape to X 1 or X 2. This game was basically designed around aircraft simulation and I think it suffers from it when they created Tank Crew out of it. Edited November 11, 2021 by Frinik22 1
Na-zdorovie Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 max on everything, don't think there's a need to bother ticking 4k textures as they are all in game now, only a few planes not in i think 1
[KG]Destaex Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 (edited) What I do find is that sometimes my tanks look great and other times they look very flat. I am not sure whether it is dependent on the map or the lighting in a given area. I have had a sneaking suspicion that the game sometimes draws the tanks like they are ground objects for aircraft looking from 2km up in the air. The tanks can look very dated and flat or they can look amazing, like perfectly painted models. Regardless you must be careful when testing your graphics that you are consistent with regard to where, when, time of day etc. Edited November 12, 2021 by [KG]Destaex
JV44HeinzBar Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 S!, I don't really pay much attention to the graphics settings in TC. I'm fortunate enough to run TC maxxed out (see my signature for rig specs). The only thing would be to turn down grass to zero. However, I don't do that as I feel like I'm cheating when there is no grass on the fields. It may help you spot enemy tanks, AT guns, etc., but it still feels like a cheat to me. HB 3

HB There must be honour among Tankers. I do NOT turn the grass off. This is not war thunder or world of tanks. We should be a cut above as simmers. Kills are not simulation. 2

[KG]Destaex Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Hard to beat DCS. I get a much more realistic feeling of floating in the actual air when I play it. Just as good as MS flight sims latest for me.
SCG_judgedeath3 Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Would argue to turn off grass and render distance is cheating, seeing tanks or anti tank guns thats well hidden else is just bad. Hence a reason I prefer playing on private server where all players taking part has same settings and rules to follow. 1
SCG_judgedeath3 Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 To a degree but I play with people I know and is seeking same hardcore immersion as myself and in photos afterwards from each player control if needed.
MajorMagee Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Here's what I'm using from the startup.cfg file. [KEY = graphics] 3dhud = 0 adapter = 0 bloom_enable = 1 canopy_ref = 0 desktop_center = 1 detail_rt_res = 4096 draw_distance = 1.00000 far_blocks = 0 fps_counter = 1 fps_limit = 0 full_height = 1440 full_width = 3440 fullscreen = 1 gamma = 1.00000 grass_distance = 300.00000 hdr_enable = 1 land_anisotropy = 2 land_detail = 0 land_tex_lods = 3 max_cache_res = 1 max_clouds_quality = 2 mgpu_compatible = 0 mirrors = 0 msaa = 1 multisampling = 1 or_ca = 0.00000 or_dummy = 0 or_enable = 0 post_sharpen = 0 preset = 2 prop_blur_max_rpm_for_vr = 155 rescale_target = 1.00000 shadows_quality = 4 ssao_enable = 1 vsync = 0 win_height = 1440 win_width = 3440 [END] This has draw_distance at 1 (150 km) because I've tried lesser values without gaining any FPS, and it seems to prevent seeing the odd bit of something floating in the air at the horizon when I crest a hill with a long vista in front of me. Distant buildings are turned off. I don't care to see grass magically sprouting up in front of me as I drive forward so I push the rendering distance out as far as possible. Using grass_distance >300 causes graphics problems like objects floating above the surface, and flickering bushes so that's as far as we can go with it. Turning the grass off makes the whole sim experience feel like I'm back in the 90s again. Mirrors are off, because well, I'm in a tank! I keep the MSAA setting low to maintain a decent FPS without stutters. I don't use sharpening because it makes the annoying texture shimmering look even worse. 1
Voidhunger Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 roughness to low, everything else to max

We seem to be having some of that "low graphic setting" virus going around Finnish at the moment. I might explore starting my own server if those settings can be pre-set. Thanks Judge. Voidhunger Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 but remembering my old GPU GTX980 with grass on ultra, well it was warm in winter
Frinik22 Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 I play with an Acer Predator GX 792 gaming laptop with a GTX 1080 M ( which offers 95% of the graphic capacity of a desktop 1080), 32Gb of ddr4 3200 RAM and an intel i7 7700HQ 2.8ghz cpu which can be overclocked to 3.1 ghz. I can play pretty much all current and recent AAA games maxed out including BF4, V and BF1, AC Odyssey, Arma 3, Far Cry 5, Hell Let Loose, Forza Horizon 4, Hunter Call of the Wild and Hitman 2. I can play TC at ultra no sweat. 1
TheIL-2Thunder Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 (edited) I have an i7-6700 CPU, AMD Radeon RX480 8GB VRAM GPU and 16GB RAM. For me the game runs bad and also it have a very annoying screen flickering... Any recommendation? Edited November 29, 2021 by TheIL-2Thunder

Not trying to be ugly, but if you're trying to run ultra, you're probably punching above your weight class with that rig. Without knowing your settings, set everything to minimum, and then try increase settings 1 at a time. Be sure to use the FPS counter in the game (backspace key, I think). HB
moustache Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 Personally, I used Dynamic Super Resolution (native resolution X3), and the result is better than if I put the anti-alliasing factor to the max ... it's great against flickering
