Stumbled upon this:

 

 

The attacking fighters AI has really come a long way, hasn't it. I remember in the original Il2 how the attacking fighters did a high 6 attack which usually meant that they got their oil radiator hit, or were set on fire on the 1st pass. Of course they also managed to shoot the bomber down. In the end you had no remaining bombers and a lot of attackers losing oil, kind of an immersion killer.

 

The slashing attacks kind of remind me of the fighters from B17 - The Mighty 8th, the game:
