MasterBaiter Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 If it ever sees the light of day I hope it will not be red-tails like CGIs/aerial battles. 3

This one, I'm not holding out high hopes for. People mistake The Pacific for BoB 2.0 which it is not. However .. The Pacific itself is a great show on its own with a different focus than Band of Brothers. Masters of the Air was announced ages ago .. I'm curious how long it will take and how good it will be. The book was well worth the read. 2
=420=Syphen Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Hope this series is given what it deserves.
=KG76=flyus747 Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 MicroProse is making 2 B17 games scheduled for a 2022/2023 release window, the same window as Masters of the Air. It wouldn’t be a bad idea if IL2 took advantage of this opportunity to finally come around to releasing some heavy bombers especially when the title is so void of them since 1946.

Maybe I'm missing something. here's some of the shots that have been released thus far. admittedly, it's no DCS or MSFS 2020, but the usual warning of "its still in development" may still be valid right now. In one of the shots, you will notice a B17F on the top right 1
JG1_Vonrd Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 I stand corrected. What I was seeing was the old original game. Where are these to be found?

This one, I'm not holding out high hopes for. “The Pacific was a mess”? To each their own, however, the Pacific was one of the finest war movies/mini series ever made. It told the amazing story of what the marines endured fighting the Japanese “on tiny specks of islands that you’ve never heard of”(Col. Chesty Puller from Pacific). It was told/shown in a way that didn’t shy away, at all, from the meat grinder toll it took on the health (mental breakdowns, anuresis, suicide, horrid intestinal infections). Some fans of Band of Brothers didn’t enjoy the Pacific for this reason, the ugliness had been upped substantially. Again understandably, these fans wanted what BoB gave which is comradeship in the middle of ‘war is hell’. But the Pacific could never do that because the Marines fighting in the pacific underwent a significantly different war/ experience/ enemy than ETO, very significantly. Both BoB and Pacific were major triumphs of military cinema. And best news? Masters of the Air is indisputably coming, likely by fall of 2022, on AppleTV+. Budget likely we’ll surpassed 200 million. Filming quality and effects should be superb (4K video, Dolby Atmos sound). And if they make the story, characters, the harsh reality along with thr cinematography as good as the Pacific and BoB, this will be the best military movie that will have been made for some years before and likely for many many years to come. Cheers… 1

357th_KW Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 The fact that this is on the way seems like pretty good motivation for producing a flyable B-17 for BoX. 1

343KKT_Kintaro Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 As you know, after the success of "Saving Private Ryan" in 1998, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks started to work on TV miniseries projects set in the Second World War. First "Band of Brothers" in 2001, then "The Pacific" in 2010... and there was also a third miniseries project called "Masters of the Air", a miniseries project that deals with the crews of the famous Eighth Air Force, "the Mighty Eigth". "Masters of the Air" had been delayed several times but it seems that the shooting had already started and that the miniseries will be broadcast by mid Spring of 2023. The YouTube channel "Hidden History" recently published a video announcing this:

I wonder what they've done in terms of Luftwaffe involvement, ie, I'm guessing 190s/109s are going to be CGI'd? Not heard anything with regards them using Buchon's etc. 190's are bound to be CGI'd in, but yeah, wonder about the 109s.
Art-J Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 ^ If any, I'd actually expect to see some non-CG 190s to be in, 'cause the Flugwerk ones are more available currently and probably much cheaper to operate than any 605-powered 109s. Unless Buchons were involved. But indeed, not much is known about other aircraft types used in this production.
Archie Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Maybe the LW will just be fast moving blurred shapes, as that's what most bomber crews would see!
von_Tom Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 I'm ambivalent about this. Band of Brothers was excellent. The Pacific got tedious after the 5th episode. Don't know why becaus ethe production values were great. Maybe it was the characters or actors or maybe it was because it was set in the far East. I have a feeling that once you look past the "Ooooh shiny aeroplanes" bit that Masters will go down the same route as The Pacific. I just hope they get the CGI right bcause if that goes wrong it doesn't matter how good the acting is. von Tom

NachtJaeger110 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I was also hoping for more practical effects and real flying planes, or at least something more along the lines of the CGI in Greyhound... CGI artists seem to have just one established language when it comes to aerial battles and that always looks like red tails... Devotion was also okay. But no one seems to care how tracers really look like... At least it seems the german fighters attack in pairs of two, indicating they at least know what a finger four is ? 2

Lusekofte Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I will give them the benefit of doubt. Taking the excellent series Pacific and band of brother into account, there should be some substance in this too. A trailer is for Hollywood, not normal thinking human-beans. And what did you expect for the flying scenes ? A squadron of real flying fortresses? During Memphis bell a French B 17 crashed. Besides big multiengined vintage aircraft’s are not insurance best friends.
