Plane attacks planes (how does it work) ?

Normally I use the Attack area >> air targets command, but sometimes in order to attack a specific aircraft, it is necessary to use the Attack command.

Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't and I would like to understand the logic behind this command.

Attached is a simple file in which a Bf-109 (AI) is commanded to attack a group of three IL-2 (AI). The WP 2 of the Bf-109 continues with a TL at the command Attack (at an altitude of 500 m, the same as the IL-2). The command Attack (High priority and Attack group checked), according to the instructions, has a TL towards the target (IL-2 leader) and an OL towards the attacking Bf-109.

Testing the mission it is noted that the Bf-109, once it reaches the WP-2, starts to circuit (as if it did not receive the Attack command) and does not attack the targets that even pass less than 2 km away. After the set time of two minutes, the Bf-109 pulls back to the base.

So I have many doubts. I ask for example:

- Do I have some logic or some parameter wrong ?

- Is there a distance beyond which the attacker cannot locate the target and therefore cannot direct his attack ? (In this case the distance is very low and cannot affect, but I wonder if the range was 50 km or more ...)

- Also, how to interrupt the attack itself after a certain time, because unlike the Attack Area command, the indication of an attack time limit is not required in the advanced propertries. Thanks.

Your problem is that you have WP 2 Bf-109 target linked to command Force Complete so WP 2 Bf 109 triggers the attack command and force complete at the same time. This may explain why it works sometimes and not other times. Here is the correct logic (ignoring object links and assuming you want to stop the attack after 2 minutes):

WP2 ------> Attack

  |

   -----------> Timer 2m --------> Force Complete

                               |

                                 -------------> Timer 2s ------------> WP 3 Bf 109 IP  (changed WP2 to WP 3)

Note the new 2-second timer, which allows force complete to occur before triggering WP 3 Bf 109 IP.

Thanks Jim.

OK... mine was only a forgetfulness, but probably I would never have seen it, as I assumed that - as I always have done in other occasions - WP2 was linked to the timer, and not directly to Force Complete ... and so I was looking elsewhere for the problem.

It was a stupid problem, but you immediately helped me to solve it, as always...

I am grateful to you, Jim
