Nvidia Texture Tools Standalone skinning

Recommended Posts

Posted

I've had to switch to using the standalone recently, due to a drive reformat and being forced to use the up to date version of Photoshop.

I'm trying to get my photoshop files converted to DDS using it, however whenever I import the files to the standalone, the Alpha Channel looks fine but the main coloured layer is completely black, rather than the actual skin textures.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or is this just the new norm for Nvidia products not working?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I don't have that box at all.

I managed to get a copy of 2017, but now I'm having a "too many channels to export" error.

I've read people saying you should just merge the image, but I've been using this for years and never had to merge any layers.

I haven't used the Nvidia plug in for a very long time as for some reason it refused to work. Since then I've used Dxtbmp by Martin Wright. http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm

A really powerful, yet simple tool that's been on the go for a very long time.

How to use it for IL-2 BOX.

1. In photoshop under the layer tab, flatten the image, then save as  a .bmp *

2. Open your new .bmp with Dxtbmp and save as DDS Texture then select in the file type drop down, DDS DXT3

That's it.

NB. Once you have flattened the image be careful not to save the template, as you will loose all you work.

to be fair, i use cs6, and in win 10 the dds plugin does no work native to cs6, i find, all though long winded at first i can use gimp to save a lot quicker than using the plugin, just save your PS file to desktop, open in gimp the export to dds, 3 clicks and its done

@ACG_Blondi

For newer Versions of Photoshop like Photoshop 2022 you should install and use the NVIDA Texture Tool, available from NVIDIA Delveloper (you have to have an or sign in for an account):

I found that the new versions of the plugin don't work in CS6. Try the 32 bit legacy version which can be found here:

https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?dn=texture-tools-for-adobe-photoshop-8-55

Is works perfectly. Surprisingly, the 64 bit doesn't work for me even though most everything on my machine is 64 bit including Win 10.

Unfortunately it does not work. I get the same result as with the Nvidia Texture Tool, that is a Cyan colored plane.

And all this did work well before. It is really a pity as now I am simply not able to skin at all.

Problem Solved see my post here
