Barry aka Bearcat has passed away...

Everyone,

 

Our good friend Barry known to all of us as Bearcat passed away last year and I have just been made aware of this and feel awful about not knowing sooner. He was a dear friend of the team and helped keep this forum from devolving into total chaos for several years, which we really appreciated.

 

Barry was a super great guy and had been a member of the larger IL-2 and ROF communities for a very long time. I'm really not happy about not knowing this sooner. I thought he was just on a break from simming, which he told he did from time to time. We had many discussions over the years about his love for the Tuskegee airmen, his music and life's ups and downs. I'm bummer he is no longer with us. Rest in Peace and Godspeed Barry. In heaven you can sim and play music all the time my friend!!!

I won't pretend to have known him, but I do know that he was a great moderator. Every time you interacted with him, you could tell that he was the sort of person you could rely on to resolve a situation in a fair and just way. He will be missed.

Yep  - I was fairly sure he passed some months ago after receiving a PM from another member, but couldn't verify.

I knew Barry from the beginning of IL2, RedDiamond , Patches a great bunch of guys in the group. I met his Son at NAS  Lemoore when he was stationed there, he's retired now. Barry stopped flying IL2 and concentrated on his music and the new love in his life.. Barry was a class act............. I'll miss him

Way back in the early 2000s I used to fly the old IL2 with a group (Alien, Dbones, Sokar, and myself) when we met Bearcat. He invited us to join the 332nd, where we flew many a sortie with them (the four of us moving mud while they provided top cover). Great times with a good bunch of guys. Sadly, life got in the way and our paths diverged.

 

Barry was a genuinely good man, I was glad to see he was here, moderating no less. Regrettably, our paths never crossed, me being rather inactive on the forums.

Very sad to hear the news. I too was thinking just recently that I hadn't seen him around the forum and was wondering about him.

 

A good presence on the forum and helped keep everything on the rails in the early days when there was often a lot of aggro.
