[80 years ago today] "• Around this time, American carrier Lexington replaces the Curtiss SBC Helldivers in VS-2 with Douglas SBD Dauntlesses. The only carrier still operating the biplane dive bomber is the recently commissioned Hornet which is conducting workups off Virginia. She will replace hers in 1942 before deploying to the Pacific.

- The Curtiss SBC will remain in operational service at Naval and Marine Corps Air Stations for continental defense and training into 1943.
