I have been researching the game a lot of and it looks great. I bought BoS at the sale.  I am running a 3800X with a 2080S in an Aurora R10. I upgraded the RAM to 3200 mhz.

Will that be good enough to run The Reverb G2 (new version) smoothly? If so, on what general level of settings (ultra, high, medium, etc)?

i am seeing a lot of mixed messages in my research about whether a 2080 can handle it at an acceptable pace at all in order to avoid major stuttering. I just can’t afford a 3080 obviously and I couldn’t fit it in an R10 anyways. I feel like most people are saying you can’t run the game smoothly on a Reverb unless you have a 3000 series card.

thanks in advance for any input.

2070S did great with a G-2, but I could forget about anything beyond the lowest FXAA which was fine visually.  Single player could generally push 58 fps over the cities with the correct settings for my old rig.  In the process of building a new machine though, with a 3080.?

For an air sim it's all about how clearly you can see and ID a dot on the screen.  If you can increase your pixel count you will see an improved image and possibly ID the shape you're looking at as soon as possible, etc.  Running on IL-2's Balanced setting is pretty good visually when you increase the resolution as high as you can while maintaining a constant 45 FPS.  Add in more of the other eye candy so you're happy with everything overall by decreasing the resolution.  Tweak and tweak some more, VR's a real pain in the blank right now still, but you can still improve the fresh-out-of-the-box game look much more with some key setting adjustments.

I don’t know how 3800X compares to 10700KF, but I used to run G2 with 2080S and 10700KF w/16 GB ram. Medium settings, almost always above 80 FPS on Moscow map, dipping below 60 during take off and occasionally above cities on Bodenplatte map.

I think you should be able to run it.

The 3800X is going to be a good bit slower than the 10700 or 5800X. I think in Il-2 it was on par with my old 4770K in VR. Not horrible, but also not great.

I was able to get reasonable, 45fps rates on a 1080 Ti in a Reverb G1, so a G2 at 50% resolution on a 2070 Super should be viable. But not higher. I tried running a Vive Pro 2 on it, and it was just to many pixels. Had to scale it down to around 0.7 pixel density to get 45fps.

I'd say, you should be able to do it, if you're selective with your settings, but you may want to be ready to replace the CPU if you need to. Zen 2 isn't quite enough for Il-2 VR, but Zen 3 is much better, and the Zen 3 V-cash CPUs should be right around the corner. Either they'll be even better for Il-2, or they'll drive down the price of the Zen 3 chips.
