Justicier Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Gentlemen, if he's headed to The Wright-Patterson Air Force base... the National Museum... They have many likely candidates for collector planes: P-39Q B-26G A-20G Aaaand... A Beaufighter... As well as some less-likely, but really cool early war possibilities perhaps: Curtiss P-36A Macchi MC.200

Where only one of 2 airworthy B25D's in the USA are stored. Unless one of you has a better idea It's as good as any I've heard so far. I'm still shattered over my Wichita guess not panning out, but maybe on the return trip... yeah... 1 hour ago, Jason_Williams said: 850+ miles today. A new personal record. Nice driving record! My personal record was as a (child) passenger in a family trip. The entire width of Texas in one day. It was unintentional. We should've stopped in Van Horn on the way to El Paso, but my dad thought it was too early to stop, and we didn't know that there essentially weren't any decent motels between Van Horn and El Paso. So we ended up going all the way to El Paso and got in at like 11 PM. My dad fancies himself as a longhaul trucker (he only worked as such for a few years) and was in full unresponsive autopilot mode that day. My mom noticed how his eyes glazed over after the 12th hour. Also: the engine-riding pic would've been completed by a cowboy hat. For that extra Slim Pickens factor.

If that was his goal he would have gone for cold springs, they have an airworthy B25J after all. The same can be said about the A26 and C47, there are closer alternatives for each. But for the B25D only 2 airworthy models exist in the world, seems like a good reason for a 2000 mile roadtrip. Hmm.... well, it could also depend on which location has staff members that are fine with a guy showing up with a laser scanner...

Missionbug Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 (edited) That is one hell of a drive, I think I would have taken a flight personally. As much as I used to just take to the road once and wander up and down the country just for the hell of it, things can be dammed tedious on your own especially if you try and go all the way in a few days, now going for a week and just following whatever sign you liked the look of and coming across the odd museum accidentally on purpose along the route is different, breaks things up a bit, Jason seems in a hurry though. Maybe some museum is going to let him tow their B-25 back to Vegas with that truck of his. Then again maybe he is just pulling our whatsit, taking the pi**, having a laugh at all this drama unfolding in the thread while he vacations. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Edited November 4, 2021 by Missionbug

I did Clarksville, Tennessee to Denver straight through in a little less than 20. DN308 Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Ok, so SAC or Yankee air museum... Is that would be a B-25D or N flyable or a B-17? I don’t think a B-52 would be reasonable for German columns pounding in Normandy....

No_Face Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 But has Jason ever created a puzzle topic to advertise a vehicle? When he does, it's to announce something more major, more global, right? Like the DVD recently. Something about Il-2 as a whole, right? Eventually if he announced 4 engine planes, that would be more global (but surprising since they normally can't).
[F.Circus]MoerasGrizzly Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Pretty sure he's just having fun with these and doesn't need a big reason 1
