casper139971 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 We would get destroyed in open servers. We want to go head to head as a learning experience for a while. Kinda like the quick dogfight missions. Best solution?
PaulTheSalty Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Berloga is nice because it’ll always spawn you by each other if you choose the correct spawns. It’s fast paced. Very good to get some basics down/general familiarization. The bad is it’s somewhat limiting (last I was on that server, it’s been a few weeks). You cannot fully customize your load outs, so no playing around with fuel loads to get a feel for how they effect performance. I know some of the weapon mods were not selectable (balloon guns for sure). Two-seater aircraft where also unavailable, so that reduces the number of machines you can try out or practice fighting against. Pat Wilson’s Campaign Generator can be played coop or vs. It’ll let you select anything you like, but you have set it up and configure it. It’s also way slower paced, so you won’t get as much experience actually maneuvering against each other, but it can help you on other aspects of the game, like your approaches to a fight. That alone largely impacts who stands the victor when it’s all over.

Unless you're playing with someone connected to the same router, you'll need to configure your router to allow external connections. You can use any map that's already saved on your system.
=IRFC=Gascan Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 I suggest you hop on the J5 FlugPark at a less-popular time. There is a dogfight air start area in the center that is available when server population is low, and there are AIs that you can fight. Not only can you fight against the AI, but you can also fight against your friend. Put on a streamer or use a custom skin so he can find you. If you have problems with the AI interfering with your fights, you can go a bit north or south of the spawn area or climb up above it (most of my fights start at 6000ft or higher). If you can takeoff, navigate, and land, then you have all the basics you need to start flying against other players. There is a wide variety of skill levels on the FlugPark, so you may find that you already have the skills to get into a good scrap. There will always be better players out there, so don't think you need to be the ace of aces before you start venturing online. Also, hop on the J5 FlugPark discord. There are lots of people who can provide advice for how to improve: tips and tricks for certain planes (fuel loads, maneuvers, spin recovery, etc) that would take you ages to figure out on your own. 2
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 There's two ww1 servers called 'shooting stars' - one with icons, one without. They rarely have any pilots on. S!
US41_Low Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Here are some aspects of dogfighting that you probably won’t find easily because they aren’t flashy or cool: 1) Situational awareness (SA) or simply spotting the enemy. It takes every new pilot awhile to develop the skill to see a moving spec in the distance against the backdrop of earth or sky; and this is a real life combat skill that translates fairly well in game. Fights won’t happen often in an even, gentlemanly merge. People are going to try to get the jump on you, and you on them. You have to be able to find them to kill them and to stay alive. 2) Don’t die. It’s preferable to run to friendly lines, friendly airfields, or friendly planes for support rather than bravely getting shot down. 3) Read the plane guide in this forum to get a basic understanding of what each plane can do. And like gascan suggest join the j5 flugpark discord to ask new guy questions, and if you want more teamwork type stuff there’s several groups out there that’ll take in new members for either entente side or central side. Good luck, have fun 1
