Additional pilot tools

Besides the pistol and flare gun, I think it would be fun to have, say, a brick you can drop on targets (like they did in the early days of the war) and/or a large spanner wrench you can toss backwards over your shoulder into the slipstream (and hopefully into the pursuer's prop, engine, or face) as a last-ditch effort when you're getting your empennage shot off.   

 

Handy stuff for a tailgunner, too.

I don't like it. This is blatant cruelty to bricks. I will report you to the RSPCB if you persist with this madness. Spanners are okay but. They're common and have no personality.

Was practicing with a squad mate last night and his Dr1 top wing flew off and hit me, disabling my engine.

 

Concept proven lol. Give us a toolbag of stuff to chuck out the back in a dogfight.

However, I think it would be cool to have actual gun jams in the game (not just the misfires) and have a game mechanic such as “hold space to attempt unjam”. Then, as you hold space, a pilot hand animation (like the one we have for flare guns) would come up holding a spanner and hammer away at the gun until the attempt time was done.

The WW2 lot have been maliciously chucking their canopies at each other for years, I reckon Flying Circus deserves a similar ability. Maybe let us pull that awful windscreen off the Nieuport and chuck it at pursuers?

Guns can be disabled by battle damage. Had that happen a few times to me. Sometimes I lost one gun, sometimes I lost the second, sometimes both were shot in the same burst of fire. Not quite the same as a gun jam, but similar effect.

Would definitely be interesting to have a "Full Realism" setting that could be switched on / off and enabled random engine failures and proper gun jams...maybe not so much for Flugpark but could be a neat little setting for some of the events...speaking from WoFF experience, it's pretty intense when you're in the middle of a furball and your gun jams...even more intense when the engine decides to quit!

And if doesn't work you toss your hammer at the enemy. 

 

I'd rather a rope with a big hook on the end, Rake it across the enemy and if you still have it at the end of your sortie you can use it to stop your DH4. Damn thing just keeps rolling and rolling.
