Well... As the title suggests, I'm wondering if there is a way to turn off the automatic updates... Why? Because the only way I can play this beautiful game is over a cell phone connection, which is poor at best

Yes, I play single player via my own missions and have also found that the career mode doesn't appear to require a connection, just the initial contact with the authorisation server upon startup. This means I can fly quite happily with 1 bar of signal on a 4g network

I went to startup this afternoon and got thrown straight into a 1gb update which has now stalled and required a force quit. I am REALLY hoping this has not screwed up the 30gb main install.

The updates are fine, but I need to do them when my connection is at its best, not when it is at its worst... Like now. I'm sure there is valuable content from the talented team, but it has meant the game I paid for is now unplayable and the update is completely worthless.

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks in advance from rainy Thursday afternoon in rural New zealand

Have just posted a ticket asking for a full refund as this sadly makes BoK completely unusable for me.

I have had problems in the past with RoF so I'm not expecting them to be reasonable.... Hopeful, but not expectant.

If things go pear shaped, is there anyone out there that would like to be gifted Bok? Perhaps in exchange for cliffs of dover desert wings?

I believe that you can go into the game files, find the main game .exe file, and create a shortcut for that. That will then completely bypass the launcher, and take you straight to the game. This method requires no internet at any point.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much man, you're a bloody legend... You've got me back in the sky ?

Bugger... Spoke too soon lol. Can't login through authorisation server. Apparently I HAVE to use the new version ? I can play offline, just can't access career mode anymore... Which ironically doesn't require Internet once the career is being played.

I honestly don't understand why I need an 11gb update that is downloading a whole lot of content that I don't need as I don't even own the games. REALLY frustrating.

I think that actually career more requires internet, unlike quick missions or the new advanced quick missions or your self-made missions, of course. Also, if I remember correctly, even if playing in offline mode, it requires you to get online after some time and at that point you would have to update your game, too. Not fully sure about that part, but that is my understanding of it.

Because like that you get to use a whole lot of content that you don't own anyway. Don't own BoS, but want to do a dogfight against Bf-109 F4 or Yak-1? You can do it, because even if you don't own these planes, they are still part of your game. You can even play on Stalingrad map online, even if you don't own it. Everybody that is using the game has the same version of it and can play it together online, so there are not issues like one player having a version 4.60010101a and another one having a 4.6001010101b and weird incompatibility glitches appear here and there and all kinds of bug reports about hundred different versions of the game that the devs would need to look into.

Ahhhh. I didn't realise that about the maps etc, that is good.

For what it's worth, I was able to disconnect my mobile hotspot once the career was loaded and everything kept working, including saved progress. Odd, because I thought the progress/stats were held in an online server

So totally gutted that I didn't realise the updates were so huge. Just downloading the 30gb game was a massive undertaking. Doing 11gb updates regularly just isn't manageable. Had I known that before purchase, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

Thanks for the info though.
