Enceladus828 Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Although neither of which is likely to happen soon, I hope that the Italian Campaign from September 1943 to May 1945 can be covered in the IL-2 Great Battles series through Collector maps or in the IL-2 Dover series. This theater is largely not talked about and remains widely unknown to most people. I for one know essentially next to nothing about it and probably know way more about the North Africa Campaign from 1940 to November 1942 and Malta from 1940 to late 1942 than the Italian Campaign. To my knowledge, no flight sim has ever covered or has even tried to properly cover the Italian Campaign. In regards to lack of knowledge, I hope that the Italian community can do their best in providing the devs and any career, campaign, or mission builders with as much knowledge as possible so they can properly depict the events which happened and make the Italian Campaign much more known than ever before. Since pretty much all of the planes (except for the Italian birds) that saw action there are already in BoN and BoBP, I feel that Collector maps would be the best way to depict the Italian Campaign. Battle of Italy Part 1 would be from September 1943 to mid 1944 and have BoN planes and the G.55 (as well as planes in a Battle of Sicily installment) while Battle of Italy Part 2 would be from mid 1944 to May 1945 and have BoBP planes and the Re. 2005. Each map would cost $50 and have a Pilot Career in it. This theater has been robbed of a depiction for far too long and not only is this a widely unknown theater but the Italian Peninsula would be a lovely place to fly over with its picturesque scenery. 2

migmadmarine Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 (edited) I could still see this as a viable next option, don't think we are going to the Pacific quite yet, and I don't think a east front module would be the best option at the moment. Maybe swap the P-40 for an earlier P-38 that could be used in Normandy as well? [Edit] if they were there of course. Edited September 7, 2022 by migmadmarine

This is really only a limitation for the Axis, there are still plenty of interesting Allied aircraft that served in Italy that could be added without overlapping Bodenplatte and Normandy (and indeed, while adding to them). Here are possible Allied aircraft for at least two more Italian modules: Fighters - P-40K/M/N, P-39Q (loads in Free Italian service), Spitfire VIII, Spitfire IXc, Seafire L.II, P-38F/G, YP-80 (lol), P-47D-40 and P-51D-30 (HVAR carriers) Strike - B-26, Boston, Baltimore, A-26, Wellington, A-20G, Ventura, Beaufort
kraut1 Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Hi, Very impressive how many informations have collected in this post. A real Italy mod would be great. With EMG by Vander I made this mod for Italy by using the Kuban map. It's of course a stop gap solution but for me it works:
ITAF_Rani Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 We can also use this part of Normandy map to simulate the area of the north Africa and Malta 1942-43 1

(only ca. 20 planes per mission for VR, all missions with enemy contact and short distances to targets) Tunisia-EMG-demo-missions.zip Edited March 14, 2023 by kraut1
ITAF_Rani Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 All is nice...but with Jason left... we missed the real possibility to have a great scenario for Italy 2 1

I just tried out after 1 year pause in War Thunder an offline Testflight/Mission Editor Combat Air Petrol mission FW190-A5 Operation Husky over Sicily in Simulator Mode against Spitfires Vb trop / P39 Airacobras. I like the map, in simulator mode the flight model is okay for me and the air combat was interesting too and it works with my Oculus Rift-S. For Italy there are some planes available too. For my "Excel Logbook Careers" I sometimes added some few War Thunder offline missions. Edited March 15, 2023 by kraut1
