Attack mission AI not doing anything when i am flight leader

Is it just me or do the other IL-2s just circle over the target area and do nothing? Sometimes, on rare ocassions, they drop their bombs but thats it. No guns, no repeated attacks. I try to give "attack nearest target" order, nothing, "patrol for ground enemies" nothing, "return to our mission" nothing.

I really miss the detailed orders you could give in the old IL-2 1946 game.

Please fix that or add a menu option to send my wing to production work.

Especially for level bombing, it was very immersive

The situation happens on basically every mission I do. It appears that some minutes into the mission the AI radio and command system freezes. Sometimes I even get stuck with the last message being displayed on screen without fading out for the whole mission. Radio messages stop being played or shown and commands I give are not responded to. Wingmen AI in that case gets stuck in whatever their last orders were and attempt to keep formation with me while I am doing my attack runs. Only good to me is that they sometimes distract enemy AA.

When I am not flight leader, the same thing often happens but AI keeps following their mission orders and still attacks the target, so it wasnt that noticeable.

Issue happens on every single career mission. I fly as flight leader, pick up my escorts, stick to flight plan and altitude as much as possible.

But upon arrival my wingmen just circle over the target area while i am the only one attacking. Sometimes one of them chooses to attack some lone AAA but thats it. Might as well fly alone that way....

You aren't. Same feeling here. When Im not leader, flight planes attack following leader plane. When I'm leader, they don't do it...

You are not the only one. I have the same issues.

 

I also have a feeling that "attack nearest air target" is quite random, most of times it seems it just doesn't work. Same for attack ground, cover, copy my actions...

It works but patience is required. The problem is that you are not exactly the leader, you just fly the first plane and that’s it. When arriving in target area watch the AI. You will hear yourself give the command to search and engage ground targets. As you fly closer to the target the other planes will break off left or right and start circling and then attack with or into the wind. This takes some time and you have no control over this proces. I found that when your approach to target has the wind in your back do the dive on the target.

 

Exception are column attacks.  There your wingman will cirkel the target in order to attack from the rear to the front of the column for the second and more runs.
