More SPAD Variants!

Beside the SPAD S.XIII and SPAD S.VII there doesn't seem to be too many French planes available for pilots. Noticed the Bréguet 14 was coming.

Could we ever expect to see the SPAD S.XII (with its 37mm manually loaded canon) or the SPAD S.XVII (300hp Hispano Suiza Engine) in which René Fonck scored his last victory? It's a bit of a stretch for the latter but the Fokker D.VIII is also in the game and saw little action as well.

As for the SPAD S.XIII It'd be interesting to see two variants, one with the 220hp engine and one with the older 200hp engine. If we have a career mode coming, it could be a significant upgrade during a campaign.

@US28_Baer has an excellent thread on the SPAD and it's engine options here which demonstrates that the one we have is the older one and proposes the addition of the 220hp with a lot of the supporting documentation required. I'm sure these sort of quick-win aircraft are on 1C's list, Jason has already mentioned a Mercedes D.IIIaü engine for the Albatros is a long term goal.

The SPAD XII, I'm afraid, is likely to be a bit more of a struggle. It's an intermediate between the two major service SPADs in such a way that it would require full internal and external modelling for what is, at the end of the day, a very limited service type. I mean, I'd buy it as a collector but I'm a stupid whale who will buy anything so there's no point in them listening to me.

While I'd never say no to more Spads, the 'yawning chasm' at moment is the 220hp Spad XIII.

As shown in the linked presentation above the current Spad XIII is a 200hp model.

Over 8000 Spad XIIIs were built, which I believe that makes it the most numerous scout type of the war. The majority of those would have 220hp engines.

If the devs do action this, it would be a quick and relativity easy win for them. That would make 4 SPAD types to cover 1916-1918, which I think is appropriate.

In terms of other French planes, we know the Nieuports from RoF will be coming, so that's a couple of varieties of N11 and N17 in addition to the N28 we have.

SPADs and Nieuports are a bit like bf-109s and Spitfires (and Albatros). They were 'backbone fighters'. Very numerous, and with many significant versions. Given their importance a) they have to be done right in terms of flight and visual  modelling and, b) the significant versions should be all available.

With 2-seaters,  it would be nice to have a Salmson 2 A2, but the Breguet 14 does cover that role from May 1917 and I'm not sure a Salmson would provide any differentiation.

I'd rather see Nieuport N11 and N17 not endless variations of Spads.

Those are already planned in  a later version of FC.

We do not talk about "endless variations" of Spad, we can say that there is the same level of difference between 200 hp and 220 hp as between the 109G6 and the 109G10 for instance.
