Pict Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 (edited) I've been meaning to start a thread about the magic potion for a while as I've run across a fair few members that appreciate some of the finer drops available and it's great to share the passion. So here it is. While this idea was intended largely to look at Whisky (Scottish), we will also include Whiskey (Irish) and other similar good stuff from all around the world. We can also delve into distilleries and bars with decent selections worth a visit, stories, books, movies and equally importantly, things to eat or enjoy with a good dram. You can get an idea of the Gaelic origin of the word and it's pronouciation in this short video clip. Coming from one of last places in Scotland where Gaelic is still spoken, it's not hard to imagine someone struggling to translate this into English, especially after a few drams ===================== Looking forward to seeing what others like to sip and hopefully pick up a few pointers. Pict Posted October 24, 2021 Author Posted October 24, 2021 (edited) To set the ball rolling I'm going to say right off the bat that I'm no expert on any of this, not by a long shot or any measure, even a dram But like everyone else I know what tastes good to me and I've tried a fair few different bottles. That taste is happy with a fairly wide range, but the stuff I seem to prefer is a single highland malt, a Speysider called Glenfarclas It's one of the few that's still family owned, which I think is important. It's relativley simple stuff and while they have a massive range going back year by year to the 1950's that can nail you over 5 grand a bottle if you feel the need, a 12 year old is just fine, cost about 40 pounds / euros and is what I use as my benchmark for everything else.
