Game will not install

Start IL2 it verifies the files and then starts downloading.  This is a new install, first time trying the game.  It starts downloading and shows GB's being downloaded. It goes past the size that is listed and will go to hundreds of Gigabytes if I let it. If I do noting and let it keep downloading it gets near 200GB's and then I get an error "Failed to Update". This is total BS for a game that has been out for years to have a bug like this.  I have deleted update folder, ran as admin, uninstalled the game, downloaded the installer and tried that. And it does the same thing every time.

It happens to guys on the rare occasion. It's very atypical and it sucks it is happening to you but it will resolve. Most guys don't have to do anything but wait a day or two for the glitch to clear up. You can open a ticket on Monday if it doesn't. Stick with it. It's a great game and worth it in the long run.

I am having the same exact problem, been trying to download the client for the last 2 days. No luck. Hopefully someone can help, or I will have to seek a refund.

Same issue here, finally searched the issue up once the download reached 100gb/32gb. Was so confused.

Tried again last night, no luck. Finally stopped after it reached 140gb/32gb. Looked at the install log, and towards the end it shows errors in a map file and it tries to download and unpack over and over again. Log file attached.

I think I'm seeing the same thing with my install.  In my case at least, there's a file in the updates\21-09-23\copies directory (21-09-23_data_Maps4.gtp) that stops getting bigger at a certain point (at 310,019 KB), but its date modified continues to increment, and the rest of the install appears to grind to a halt.

Just to see what would happen, I let it go. I got tired and went to bed and left it going. It was at 400GB when I went to be. And this morning "FAILED TO UPDATE"

Well I bought it Friday and it is now Sunday morning, So exactly how long do I need to wait?  My point, well this is a game that has been out for years. This type of problem should not happen and if it does it should not take days to resolve.  I just bought it to compare it to WWII DCS while it was on sale.

I stopped it myself after it reached 140gb, but I know others have let it run and it finally ends itself at 400gb or so.

I am also having the exact same symptoms.  I did submit a ticket this weekend.  I hope it is corrected early in the week.

Same issue   Saw Growling Sidewinder's P-40 Warhawk video where he mentioned the Halloween sale for IL-2 and figured I'd give it a try.  So I got the IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad - Standard Edition and immediately ran into this issue after downloading and running the installer. 

I found a bunch of troubleshooting tips online such as turning off Malwarebytes, manually adding the game installer to the list of approved files and folders for the Windows Firewall (no other antivirus software running, disabling Malwarebytes defaulted to Windows Defender), deleting the updates folder in the game directory and trying again and even installing to a different drive and doing all of the above, but nothing has worked so far ?

Really hoping someone can suggest some additional troubleshooting steps because I'm really looking forward to joining this community!

You could just sync your account with steam and run the game from steam, it will install it through

steam and you wont have to deal with the launcher to install.

     I came through steam myself so had no issues other then the sync part but got that sorted.

So I'm trying to sync my account with steam to run the game from steam like you suggested, and for the life of me can't figure out how to do that.  But apparently that's the only issue, the sync part... so hopefully you can enlighten us some more ?

Yes i had the same issue last year when i first bought the game, im normally on steam so heres what i learned,

Well, that's the problem right there. It's a pretty small team, so I don't think they've got guys around during the weekend to fix it

There's a difference between "should not" and "does not". Basically, every software will occasionally have its issues. Compared with certain AAA titles, IL2 is relatively bug-free, but even IL2 does have its bugs.

 

Regarding it taking days to resolve, again, there's the weekend thing.

Same thing keeps happening to me. I got a response from a ticket, but everything that was mentioned didn't work. I also found this weird instance where instead of me downloading something the size of the game shrinks. Hopefully they'll fix this soon.

I had the exact same thing in my error log, each time it failed. But, I decided to give it another try this afternoon, and it worked! Not sure why, maybe it has been fixed or is intermittent. I guess just keep trying.....

Having the same problem as noted above:

 

Tried to update an existing game, but it just keeps downloading well past the target size.

 

After several failed attempts I uninstalled the game and tried to reinstall it -- same effect: the game just keeps downloading (well past 50GB and still going)

 

Any ideas what I need to do to correct this problem so that I can download the game?
