cardboard_killer Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 [80 years ago today] "• The US Army approves production of the M1 carbine as the primary firearm of support troops, as the M1 Garand which is still replacing the M1903 Springfield is considered too cumbersome. More than six million weapons in several variants will be produced, and it will remain in service with the US to 1973. It is still in service with some countries. Churchill fires an M1 carbine in 1944" Design of the weapon by an convict inspired the 1951 movie Carbine Williams. 2
ACG_Bobo Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I have one of those, it's really a fun weapon to shoot. Not too loud and doesn't do too much damage. Very easy to manage and not too heavy either!
Ghost666 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Very nice weapon to shoot and a pleasure to look at, good lines. My dad bought one in the 1960's for $15 US.
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 24, 2021 1CGS Posted October 24, 2021 One of those firearms I wished I had picked up when the Civilian Marksmanship Program still had for sale. Thankfully, I was able to buy a nice M1 Garand from them before they started selling them only with reproduction stocks.
--[---MAILMAN---- Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I have my father's M-1 carbine manufactured by the Inland Division of General Motors whose serial number dates it to 1944. It is pristine, the only mark being where the back of the magazine pouch clip was pressed against the stock. I have the original magazine pouch, 7 original clips and the original .30 caliber carbine rounds that were in the clips. He was a Motor Machinist on a Coast Guard manned LST in the Pacific whose invasion duties were to run the engine and operate the ramp of one of two Higgins boats carried by his LST. He was issued the carbine for this reason. His LCVP made multiple landings at Iwo.
