E69_splash99 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Hi, could you please recommend me one of these great aircraft to buy in Halloween sale? They are both 66% off. Thanks.
=621=Samikatz Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 If you already have the 1B or 7B the -9 is pretty similar (though still unique in its handling, just subtly) so the 9T would be more interesting and flexible. Otherwise the -9 is the more "standard" aircraft
E69_splash99 Posted October 21, 2021 Author Posted October 21, 2021 Thanks, I already own the Yak-1B and Yak-7B (in BOK).
Luftschiff Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 The 9T is more unique, which is usually what I prefer paying for. Just picked it up myself 1
oc2209 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I would really buy both. The plain 9 is similar to the 1B as Samikatz said, but it's better. It turns tighter and is lighter in vertical maneuvers. Yes, it's not radically different from the 1B's capabilities, but if you want to fly the purest high-performance aerobatic plane in the game, it's the Yak-9 (in my opinion). The 9T's extra weight from the cannon will degrade its performance so that it's roughly similar to the Yak-7 (again, in my opinion). So if you can only buy one, it really depends on what you want to do; what you prefer most: firepower or agility. 1

Spoiler ...in anything other than a Yak-9 series 1. Sometimes the difference between being hit and not, is a fraction of a second of superior performance. I've noticed in career mode that I get pasted much less often in a Yak-9 compared to any other Yak I fly. Saying the Yak-1B is similar to the Yak-9 is like saying the 109F-4 is similar to the 109G-6. Yes and no. It all depends on whether you prize agility over firepower.

And if you need to decide between buying a G4 or a G6 if you already own a F4 you have to make a similar decision. 1
ronick Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 get both, they are superior handling, joy to fly. yak-9t demands better shooting skills like airacobra but delivers more damage and kills. yak-9 currently is simply best yak overall.
ShamrockOneFive Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 I wrote quite a bit about both in my review here: https://stormbirds.blog/2020/05/24/yak-9-and-yak-9t-collector-plane-review/ Both are very good aircraft. 2 3
Blitzen Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Got the 9T but not sure how I'll ever use it...?
[F.Circus]FrangibleCover Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 If you buy the Yak-9 you will never fly your Yak-1b again. You'll just never feel like it, because every second you're sat in it your brain is going "Yeah but you could be flying your Slightly Better 1943 Bubbletop Yak." If you can put up with this and you feel that you want the performance edge, by all means. It's a very good mid war fighter and entirely deserving of its reputation. The Yak-9T, meanwhile, doesn't compete. It's not like anything and outside of other Yak-9T developments being added it's not going to be like anything. Sure, it's not a brilliant fighter but if you want a brilliant Soviet fighter you buy the La-5FN. The Yak-9T is a fun aircraft, and for all that we go on about realism and Simulation, this is a video game. You strap yourself into an office chair and have a game of pretend, and there are few more satisfying results to a game of pretend than watching a 109's entire wing fly off in one hit. Also, if you're playing on combined arms servers with it, you can kill tanks with the AP!

E69_splash99 Posted October 22, 2021 Author Posted October 22, 2021 Finally I bought the Yak-9T and two campaigns (Hell Hawks and Ice Ring) and after a couple of quick flights... I love the Yak! I will end up buying the Yak-9 too during the sale... 2

E69_splash99 Posted October 25, 2021 Author Posted October 25, 2021 Which career do I need to choose in order to fly my new Yak-9T? I'm finding it difficult.

I'm very sure it would be available starting in June or July. Also would highly recommend using Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator.

As I recall, it's kind of a pain. Deselect every other plane available except for the 9T. Go down the list of starting time periods until the 9T goes from being greyed out to available. Only 1 or 2 squadrons have the 9T. At that point you still won't be starting in a 9T immediately; I believe you'll have to fly a -1B or -7 for a few weeks until the 9T becomes available in small numbers to your squadron. At least that's how I did it. *Edit: And yes, as Swoose said above, it's only flyable during the battle of the Kuban. Edited October 25, 2021 by oc2209
