Stab/JG1_Klaiber Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 (edited) Despite some movement during significant offensives, the trench systems of the Western Front were relatively static for much of the war. Like Rise of Flight and Red Baron before it, Flying Circus replicates this with the telltale muddy scar across the ground - No Man's Land. However, even though No Man's Land was often immobile, there was constant activity there. And much of this we can currently replicate in the Mission Editor - tank attacks, machine guns, explosions, smoke, etc. A mission builder with a flair for realism can create an accurate hellscape. However, there is one thing we can't replicate. And it's something that pilots flying over No Man's Land would see: artillery-launched gas attacks. Windswept gas on a trench line has a very distinct look and color. It also tended to hug the ground, unlike smoke. In their pure forms, most of the gases were colorless. But when impure, as they would be in an artillery shell, mustard gas was yellow-brown, and chlorine gas was pale-green. While this is not a "happy" topic, it's realistic. And I don't think it would be that difficult to add. I would also say that a dead-stick aircraft descending over No Man's Land during a gas attack would be absolutely terrifying. Especially if it could hurt you (the player). Edited October 21, 2021 by Stab/JG1_Klaiber 8
US41_Low Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 This is an awesome suggestion, and I agree dead sticking into a gas cloud would be some scary stuff
JGr2/J5_Hotlead Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Great suggestion! This would very, very cool to see! (Especially if it could hurt your pilot.) 1
