Afternoon,

Sorry but I have not been keeping up on all the hardware and what's out there.  Too busy.

A friend at work suggested just today that I might want check out a VR.

Didn't know it was availably.  LOL

At the moment I do have TrackIR and I do enjoy ROF, Great Battles, Flying Circus, Cliffs of Dover

I suspect they run under VR

Can you recommend a couple VR setups that I should check out and read up on?

Now that's if is will work?  The system I'm running is  --->

Processor    AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
Installed RAM    32.0 GB
Graphics    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SC GAMING
Motherboard    ASUS PRIME X470-PRO

Thank you all for your help.

Have a great day.

Sadly that system is not powerful enough for VR.

Hi, you can see my rig in my signature at the end of this post. It works fine for me, I use IL-2GB only.

Ciao!

PS ROF and Cliffs of Dover are not VR although Cliffs is being worked on.

The 1050 ti is just about able to handle VR. I have a spare desktop with a 1050Ti and have tested a Quest 2 on it.

It can run BOX on minimum GFX setting quite reasonably in light scenarios that are not too busy.

Tested with Flying Circus and PWCG with low mission settings

Some people with better knowledge will answer you I assume but to me your CPU might be too weak in single thread performance and your graphics card is too weak. In other words I'm afraid that you'd better to upgrade if you're pretty sure VR is for you, or you could try and test with a less demanding VR headset 1st with low settings, just to get enough smoothness and see if this VR thing is actually for you or not. But if it is, you will sell your house/car/wife/chidren if necessary to get the new stuff. :D

May I ask what your resolution and framerate are? I have an RTX2060, which oughtta be better than the 1050Ti, and I find my VR performance merely acceptable on low graphics settings and a somewhat lowered resolution.

Couldn't tell you only ran it for a few days to play around with a Quest 2. I know I had it all dialled right down.

Are you using a Q2

Accurate. Started with an Oculus Quest 1 at the start of the pandemic on an older computer build and, well… check out my signature?

Lots of folks enjoy VR in single player with less-powerful systems than mine.

I am using a Ryzen 5 5600x, MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI (MS-7C94),
32GB, 2x M2 SSD Gen3, 1xHDD, RTX 3070Ti, HP Reverb G2, 27" Pixle QHD

90% of the time with MSFS 2020. Flying always in VR. Settings are something between medium to high. For 2D everything is Ultra (Resolution is in QHD)

Here in IL-2 everything is Ultra and VR is great (Except the start procedure isnt clever). Very nice (but why the weather in Flying Circus is always sunny?)

Elite Dangerous, Star Wars Squadron also in VR

Your PC cannot be too fast for VR ?

but the settings above are good and fine (for me)

I have choosen the Reverb G2 cause the resolution was the best. And its very comfortable to wear it, not heavy and I'm dont sweating (I am from Singapore where its always 31-33Deg and high humidity). Its possible to wear glasses, but I would recommend to add some correction lenses for the reverb instead of fixing your glasses under the vr goggles.

Your specs I think are too weak for VR. maybe in low settings but then it is very exhausting for the eyes, when the video output is not clear. But if you can....try out first. Some people have "motion sickness" after a short while. Don't spend a lot of money, when its not needed

You haven't mentioned a VERY important detail.  What's your budget?  VR tech is advancing quickly, and with some new VR Headsets being released by almost every HMD builder out there, most of your choices will be dictated by how much money you're prepared to spend. In my opinion, and from what I see with your present PC hardware etc., you will definetly need to upgrade most of it.  Give us your budget.  That way, you can expect more expert recommendations from a few of the highly knowlageable VR members of this forum.  Good luck buddy...take care...

Maybe with a Rift or Rift S the 1050ti can run.

Yes, i also have 1050ti and samsung osyssey plus. You can run BoX on minimal  settings, but it still enough to get nice experience

Fwiw, on my backup machine, I run a GeForce 680 with a vive on a 2600k.  On low settings I can run VR at 60fps, at least in quick missions.  Not ideal, but it works.
