Want to practice free flight from parked?

Hi there ... loving the game ... somehow more immersive than the "other one" on a number of levels ... but I cant figure out how to start a free flight mission in an aircraft of my choice from parked or lined up on runway on the ground. Please help?

Quick Mission, click on the single black plane in the map, select the aircraft and then "start from runway"

Very true, if you're talking about IL2 Great Battles, but he's asking this for CLOD + Desert Wings, which is quite different.

 

Sorry, can't help out here, although I got CLOD and the stuff, but I do not touch that thing.

In Blitz there is a mission in the quick mission section I believe called "Cross Country". By default it has a blenheim but you can swap it out for anything by clicking on the aircraft picture (german aircraft will have raf roundels). You'll start spawned on the runway with engines running. Just kill the engines if you want to practice starting from scratch.

So, about Cliff probably the best idea is to join a multiplayer server, select the faction, find an available airfield (white icon) far away from the front line and have fun..

Thanks for the work around Boo .... surprised this isnt catered for but appreciate that Clod wasnt fully, ahem, finished when released!

You can play any multiplayer mission alone (or with friends) creating your own server. The multiplayer spawning method gives you a lot of possibilities to test any plane.

 

Good thing is there's no planes attacking the airfields so you can practice the clickable interactive cockpits no problem and go for specific objectives. You can train dogfights/bombing/strafing runs.

I know MP isnt for everyone but CLODs map size does allow for you keep out of the way if you want to learn and fly in different areas to keep your interest. Its how I learned the game and the added pressure of having breathers about made you a little more aware of your surroundings and a little less likely to put off trying full fat MP down the line.  

 

Plus you'll pick up the ESSENTIAL multi player skills of NEVER taking off or landing in the right direction and NEVER EVER looking before you wall the throttle much faster.........

If you want the full hangared C&D startup scenario it isn't difficult to make one in the FMB using the map season of your choice.

I believe the need for a "Cold & Dark" mission was pointed out shortly after TF 5.0 launched. I don't know why any new comer would infer that the "Cross Country" QM is a ground start by looking at the mission icon. Maybe it's more complicated to add such missions to the QM list than we understand but "free" missions have been added since launch so why cold and dark missions, so simple to construct, couldn't be added in an eye-blink IDK.

Tobruk had some QM added, so I don‘t think that is a real problem. Would be nice to have one cold start mission for each side. Same for landing and take-off for practice.

I have some quick start missions - mainly for tobruk but have some for BoB map. They usually start engines off (there is a tick box in mission editior to enable this rather than default start with engines running on runway). If nought else you can look inside mission editor and edit/write your own for aircraft you want.  Try this one for hurri II starting cold from lympe. Mission editor you can change alrcraft or location to anything you want. Once you done it once its a doddle.
