Finkeren Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Couldn't help but being a bit bummed, that I didn't get to try out the Butcher Bird in BoS, before I went on a two week vacation with the in-laws in a rented house in the middle of nowhere. Passing the time making some quick scetches with the one pencil I thought to bring on some rather unsuitable glossy paper. Thought I'd share this one with you to whet your appetite for the Würger: It's drawn from memory, so please don't count the rivets 4
Leaf Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I wish I could draw like that... My drawing skills haven't evolved much since I was about 10. I especially like that fan behind the propellor (what exactly is its use?), nice detail. 1
sallee Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Have you got any drawings of the cockpit? Very nice...except there weren't enough rivets. 1
Finkeren Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I especially like that fan behind the propellor (what exactly is its use?)The fan is there to secure a steady airflow over the engine at all times. Compared to most other radial engined aircraft the Fw190 has a rather small air intake in the nose (which is the only intake on the entire aircraft, meaning it also supplies the oil cooler) and therefore can't rely on just the normal air flow to keep temperatures down. The fan spins independently of the propeller and most of the time a lot faster, unlike the superficially similar but much simpler design on the La-5/7. The 190 was originally designed to be an exceptionally clean design with the best aerodynamic profile posible for a radial engine. Something that was even more apparent in the prototype: Edited July 6, 2014 by Finkeren 1
Finkeren Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Made another one this morning: This one took almost a full hour to make, so please be kind 1

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 And that skin will never be approved with the hakenkreuz on the tail. Nice BTW 1

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Severe overheating but only partially attributable to the original hub. Overheating was not fully solved until much later with the A5 series. 1
sallee Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Very nice Finkeren. You seem to be spending a lot of time drawing. You get on with the in-laws then....
Finkeren Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 The in-laws are just fine. I think my drawing Focke Wulfs is more atributable to BoS withdrawal syndrome.
