PWCG Internationalization released as Beta

Get it at the PWCG web site

I have started an internationalization process for PWCG.  I did something that will allow internationalization of most buttons, tool tips, and some elements of the screen.  That is tip of the iceberg but it's a start.  I have the ability to read an internationalization file and use the matching result.

At the moment the only file is English, with key and value being the same.  If this sounds useless, it mostly is. However, if somebody were to copy En and paste it as say, Sp, and then translate what's on the left to Spanish on the right, it should display Spanish.

Specifying the file is done in Main Menu->Configuration->User Preferences->Internationalization File

The internationalization file is in PWCG/PWCGBoSData/input/international

I will release a test version of this for people to play with.  I will need help with translations.  As translations are made they will become part of the release.

There is much more to be made available for translation.  It's going to be a process to get to the finish line.

Quick progress report.  I have the general process down.  I currently have about 220 strings internationalized.  That is all of the buttons and most check boxes.  Working on labels now.  I did translations to Spanish, German, French and Russian.  Google translate so results are what they are.  When I complete this stuff I will release a test version for people to check out.

What is not included:

Complex text like stuff in combat reports, victory descriptions, etc.

Anything that goes into the 1C mission folder like in mission briefings, etc.  This stuff scares me.  I love this game but their error handling is much less than desirable.  Make a mistake here like putting the wrong character in a file and the game collapses (generally quits out of the mission) with no indication as to what is wrong.   PWCG mission files can exceed 800,000 lines of mission text - go figure out where the bad character is.

I released the Beta just a minute ago.

13.4.0 Beta
Internationalization
- English, German, Spanish, French, and Russian
- Most buttons and labels
- Not complete.  Output to mission files and several complex items like combat reports and victory statements remain English only.
Improved leave, transfer equipment request, depot report such that the document image stretching is minimal.

How to set a new language:

main Screen ->Configuration -> User Preferences

Set the Internationalization file to:

En = English

De = German

Sp = Spanish  (Spanish speakers: should this be Es?)

Fr = French

Ru = Russian

If you enter incorrect data PWCG defaults back to English.

PWCG uses that input to find a file in PWCGBoSData/Input/International called Internationalization.<Code>.txt.  PWCGFCData for FC.  If you decide to mess with these files make sure that they are saved as UTF-8.  Once they are saved otherwise they are gone and have to be redone.

Please note that this is the beginning.   I have about 300 text entries translated, which by no means is everything.  However, most buttons, labels, and tool tips should be done.  As people check it out I will continue to do more.

All translations are from an online service.  If you think they are wrong I will be happy to take corrections/improvements.  German is the only other language that I speak even a little bit (unless "dos cervesas por favor" counts),so I am generally not in a position to proof the translations.

Sp = español (hispanohablantes: ¿debería ser Es?)

Yes, Es

First of all, if I have not said it before, CONGRATULATIONS for your work, I think it is incredible. And now even more so with the translations.
If you allow me I could suggest some small corrections that sound a little weird.
As for example .... "Misión de limpieza",  change it to "Generar otra Misión".

Thank you very much.

PS: if you don't accept suggestions, no problem, just let me know.

I am hoping for corrections.  Pretty sure that online translators are not accurate, especially in a context as specific as a flight sim.

Looking for some feedback.  Is the internationalization working for people?

so far I have not had problems.

I have seen that after reporting the mission, the space that remains where the downed planes appear has become narrower. it's possible.
And in the main menu if you want to change Salir de just Salir I think it looks better.
