I need a clarification about Steam, BOX and VR

Hello, I am pretty new to all of this so pls be nice if I ask stupid questions ?

I recently bought myself a nice gaming computer and BoM, BoK, BoBP and FC1.

The games are bought direct from the il-2 store.

Just played in singleplayer but I really enjoy it!

I will probably buy a Reverb G2 pretty soon but I have a few questions before I spend my money.

1: Is it possible to play in VR, with Reverb G2, without buying ANY il-2 games in Steam?

2: Will I be good to go, if I only install Steam, Steam VR and WMR?

3: Is it even possible to install Steam without buying anything?

Is there anything else I need to think of or any advice you want to give me?

Yes to three of them. What’s your GPU?

You have a great PC for VR ! Just check how to use FSR in order to have 90 fps at all times, you can do this after ordering the HMD

Yes to all 3 of your questions.

Also just google "open compisite"

By installing this you do not need to install Steam or SteamVR. Also open composite works way better than steamVR. That little program replaces openVR dll's in the games makes them use the native client instead of routing via SteamVR.

Thank you! I hope it will be a great experience to me. I placed an order for a G2 yesterday and it arrived today ?

Going to call HP support tomorrow and ask for the new powercable, since all AMD owners should get that for free.

I will be happy if I can get it running reasonable well at the start, and optimizing it will have to wait until I understand these things better, hahahaha.

Is that correct?

I thought "Open Composite" was only for the Occulus HMD:s and that Steam VR was needed for Reverb G2.

Like I said before, I am very new to this, so any help would be appreciated in guiding me in the right direction.

I just want to find the easiest and smoothest way to get this running in a good way.

Another reason to get that rev. 2 cable is that the original rev. 1 cables can go bad. I'm on my third cable now, both previous rev. 1 cables replaced by HP. One had lasted only two months, the other about nine months, and I only play IL-2 in VR, so not a lot of moving about (even though I do have a motion platform).

I even bought a spare rev. 2 cable so I won't have any downtime if this new rev. 2 cable goes bad, too.

Sorry, I have just missed that. I'm so thankful to the guy that advised me to use it so I did not pay attention to you HMD.

Than you have only AMD FSR mod to get some extra boost if needed. I just need 3080 to get quest2 at 72hz without any tweaks. G2 at 90 hz might need that extra from amd FSR mod. (https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr)

You have a great system you will love it. I would love to see your face your feet movement when you first fire up the VR in and get in the air :)

I'm lost. Being a full newbie in VR I got my HP reverb G2 Headset this morning. No difficulties to install it but then...Through my lens I can see a virtual flat with many links to microsoft store...but how to have my windows 10 screen with my link for Il2 Great Battles into the screen of my Headset?????

What is the way to play???

I guess I missed something it is to say that HP reverb G2 Headset is to be used with STEAM. The door is STEAM isn't it? If it is the case what about my Il2 Great Battles I didn't buy with Steam but on the official sit IL2 Great Battles ? May I have access through Steam to the version of Il2 Great Battles I bought including the planes and the campaigns I've bought?

Then does anyone have the patience to give me a step by step to play Il2 Great Battles with new Head set?

thanks so much

As system I have a i9 processor and a Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070

Absolutely easiest way:

1. Install SteamVR via Steam Store

2. Install Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR via Steam Store

3. Start IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles Launcher ( in directory \IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game\launcher.exe)

4. In the Launcher click "Settings", then tick box that says "Enable VR"

5. Click "Play" in Launcher

Next time you play you can just click your IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles shortcut as "Enable VR" is set in configuration. To add IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles to your Steam VR library you have to right click it in Steam Library, select Properties and then "Include in VR library".

Start Windows Mixed Reality portal. If you dont know where it is, then search for it by using Windows 10 searchbar next to Windows button on your desktop. Then press the 3 dots (...) left lower corner and choose "Settings". In the settings screen that comes up click  "Headset display" on left side menu and then make sure that it says 90 Hz in the "Adjust frame rate" window.

If that does not remove your sensation of sea sickness, then take a 10 min break everytime you feel sea sick and then repeat that. The feeling mostly goes away after a day or so due to your brain getting used to VR.

Good luck

Thanks so much Slo-Mo. It goes better with sea sick. Regarding the graphic settingsl up yet through the lens I have the center quite clear but around it looks rather blurry. Are there settings fo fix to have a better picture? I went into Steam VR settings tried different settings but it is alwalys blurr except the center of the screen.

Thanks for your help.

FJY: If you run SteamVR you can then even close Steam. SteamVR will run without Steam.

Glad to hear your sea sickness feeling is going better! Not that much to do about that I am afraid my friend. The G2 has a limited sweetspot (i.e. where it is not blurry), and everyting outside of that spot will be blurred. This is also a way to save power from your GPU and CPU. Turning up resolution settings in Steam VR will only make the sweetspot look better, the blurry parts outside of that will always stay blurry. My best suggestion is, turn your head to look at that you need (is what I do).

Cheers
