IIN8II Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Pretty awesome. I love me some MiG-3. I recently saw a similar article about an IL-2 they found in a lake.
snowsnipersnow_sniper Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 on first pic, look at the look of the damaged propeller : it looks like close to BOS propeller damage model !! +1 for dev for this !! 1
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Didn't they find that Il-2 that's flying with an Allison at the bottom of a lake, too?
Finkeren Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 The most interesting thing is, that the creators of that website apparently think that its readers are blind. The plane being pulled from the lake is obviously a Yak (1 or 7) and they then show a MiG-3 being restored, which look nothing like the plane being salvaged. They are even brazen enough to show a picture of the MiGs cockpit, where the text encourages you to go compare with the pic of the cockpit of the plane being pulled from the water, claiming it's the same cockpit even though it's obviously completely different. I don't know why, they would fabricate something like this, but it can't be unintentional. 1
Feathered_IV Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Does seem a bit like its aimed at younger readers. Maybe it's translated from bad Russian journalistic copy to English by a person with no interest in aviation. One things for sure, pulling up a Yak and restoring it as a flyable MiG would be very time consuming indeed.
Dunringill Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Didn't they make an IL-2 out of a recovered Tiger Tank a few years back? :-)
