CCG_Pips Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Hello, Is there a chance to change the visual appearance of streets and squares in major cities on all IL-2 bOS maps. I know that for aviators, this does not matter since this detail is not visible from 100 meters above ground level, but for tankers or vehicle drivers, this visual is not pleasant. by replacing tall grass with paving stones, for example It looks like if we were in a post apocalytic city. AEthelraedUnraed Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Yes there is: You can add pavements, roads, whatever you like. What you can't do, is add/remove trees, change the landscape height or improve the building appearance. Edited October 5, 2021 by AEthelraedUnraed 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Is this considered a mod, in that it won't work in "Mods Off" online situations?
NoelGallagher Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 very much agree it looks horrible when you drive the tank through the city 1

It's not considered a mod and does work with "Mods Off", but I'm not sure how online games handle it since it requires a custom surface file. Will it be automatically downloaded? Will it crash for people who don't have it? Will it use the default surface for people who don't have it? Will it run at all? I don't know. If anyone is able to test this, please let me know! Yes, as you say, it is for mission editor, so only peoples who make missions or campaign can use this solution. it should be better to correct it directly in the game. Many thanks for your reply. that's prove, correction is possible. Edited October 5, 2021 by CCG_Pips

Adding surfaces makes the scene graphically more complex, so will decrease the framerate. Given that cities are already problematic in that respect, I understand that they don't add generic pavements. 1 4

I am not a dev, so cannot reply there, just hope they will find a good solution, once a time. I just see that visual aspect of the game is important (corrected visual of explosions, future correction of clouds etc...) and in my opinion, as well as others here, this aspect is also important.

The maps in question are flight sim maps, optimized for flight sim activities. you are choosing to use them outside their intended optimized purpose. It's on you to accept the compromise. 3
Mtnbiker1998 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Could removing the grass in some of the urban areas be a good compromise? Don't need special pavement textures or objects, would probably look good enough for ground forces and wouldn't cripple flying performance 5

May be you do not know, but I'm playing both type (pilot and tanker) in this game. 1

Gambit21 Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 This is a flight sim - as such I think the terrain etc does the job. Even in a tank or ground vehicle I’ve made use of areas on these maps and was impressed with the final result. One just needs to choose wisely - the cities were not made to stand up to such ‘up close’ scrutiny. 1
jollyjack Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 But it's fun that it's possible at all ... What makes IL2 probably the better 'flight' simulator. All that flying cat be boring at times. Now howzabout some more player stuff like them two great flak trucks, some player ships, and Ai infantry LoL? 1
