Roast Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Also looking forward to the P-39 in future, though the P-40 makes more sense as a counterpart to the Macchi or IAR due to it's similar performance. The Cobra is no real equal to those and probably performs better as a bomber interceptor / ground attacker. I agree with you about the logical choice for the P-40 over a P-39, hopefully we will get the P39 as paid plane such as RoF soon after the official release of BoS Regarding the use of the P-39 as a bomber interceptor/ground attack aircraft; the P-39 was predominantly used as a fighter, and that's how I 'flew' it in the original IL-2 sim. NB You don't need an Airacobra against bombers I think, use any fighter firing it's mg's attack head on or at a slight angle and aim for the cockpit, one doesn't need a 37mm canon for that

Yeah thats true but i have read "Abschuss" from Walter Schuck and the Cobra was mentionrd many times. Sure, he fought against the P-40 too. I never liked the P-39, after reading the book, it is a sexy airplane.
Duckman Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 P-40, more fun to fly and historically accurate. I have nothing against the Hurricane though. Hope to see it in some other battle.
Clutch9800 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 P-39 - Really looking forward to it. Voted for the P-40 though.
HFR_Forza971sbh Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Voted P-40 for historical accuracy's sake
Elbows Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 While this is old and dead, I voted for the P-40. Just love the thing. I hope people can get over the historical inaccuracy issues. I think RoF did it very well - covering all periods and many major aircraft. That is surely more appealing to the masses. Personally I did a simple excel spread-sheet of when fighters/aircraft were in service and when I make missions I pick a 6-month span and use only aircraft in service at that time. Not that difficult. I do understand if someone is concerned about dogfight MP lobbies (though I hope you could edit plane selection there). Regarding the map itself - doesn't bug me. It's just a map. I'd gladly fly some hellcats and zeroes over frozen Stalingrad if they were available. One thing I would like to see is making sure there are enough for each side and keeping that balanced (not in performance but in numbers and options available). I think 777/1C are more intrigued to sell you a $5-10 airplane than start selling minor models of current aircraft (though, like RoF they could sell updated or different models for less than full retail). Either way I'm very confident in the end result and line-up.
Roger_Lambert Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 what version of p40? i would like the p40-E
Danziger Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) I like the sleeker early P40 models. http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/articles/romanenko/p-40/126iap.jpg According to this the early model would be appropriate for 1941. http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/romanenko/p-40/ Edited September 12, 2014 by possumkiller 1
