Lowelegend Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 Hi I have been having trouble getting the rocket truck working using IL-2 Mission editor as it will never shoot at its target. sorry can't remember the name tho Looks a bit like this
AEthelraedUnraed Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 It's a Katyusha, or more specifically a ZIS-5 truck with a BM-13 rocket launcher Use a Command:AttackArea MCU with the "Attack Ground" checkbox checked. Set the "Time" property to the time you want the attack to last. Object-link it to the bm13 object (it has to be a Linked Object). Trigger the AttackArea MCU by for instance a target link from a timer (that itself is triggered by the Translator:Mission Begin MCU). Make sure the AttackAreaMCU is high enough to be visible by the bm13. If it's behind a mountain or anything, it won't shoot. I can recommend JimTM's Mission Editor manual for reference:
Gambit21 Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Alternatively just give it a "force complete LOW" command and it will shoot at whatever is in range on it's own.

Is this required for any AI object with a gun if you want to them to defend themselves before being engaged?

Well the AI (guns etc) don't have "you attacked me, so now I'm fighting back" logic. Thus in order to get them to engage, regardless of circumstances, you need either attack, attack area, or force complete. For AA guns etc I use force complete. For artillery I'm usually after an effect, so I concentrate their fire with an attack area...but it varies sometimes. Edited October 8, 2021 by Gambit21
