Appreciate all the info in this thread. Why are these the only aircraft that i can do this with? Running tests on any other aircraft and i can not recreate it at all. I am using a desk mounted stick and it isnt heavily sprung. but its certainly not setup 1-1 input, i do have a curve to help the smaller inputs

 

The Tempest had one of the most effective elevators around and that seems to have translated into the sim fairly well but with the side effect of being able to break itself. The artifice may be in the rapidity that you can command the change on a loose spring joystick versus what was actually in the cockpit.

I would like to know also, I have a huge collection of pilot memoir from WW2, many on the Tempest and Typhoon and I cant recollect reading where the wing fails as it does in IL2, I have read and seem photos of bent airframes, buckled fuselages and wrinkled skin.

Anyone have any direct pilot accounts they could list or point too?

It probably didn't unless it reached a certain structural threshold which some are able to exceed because their at joystick lets them command full deflection immediately and the real aircraft probably couldn't do that.

 

I've never read a report of a Tempest shedding it's wing and I've read a lot of reports on this aircraft. Again, there's an artifice here that may be a bit more difficult to reconcile.

 

Are you ripping wings off? What are you doing to achieve this? What kind of control configuration are you using? Do you have curves or a linear plot for your axis? Most of you know that the Tempest is in my top 5 all time favourite aircraft ever and after many consecutive hours of flying this aircraft I have never once achieved this which squares with the pilot logs from my perspective. Of course I'm just one and a sample size of one isn't good enough but it leads me to think that the sim may be doing exactly what it's programmed to do up to the kinds of tolerances that are published for the airframe and some of you are just managing to exceed that in some interesting edge cases.

I have lost wings on the Tempest when It first joined to sim but haven't lately. Most were when I pulled up out of a dive and then did a negative push over. that would result in the outer section of the wing breaking off on one side or the other. 

I think Shamrock may be right. part coding on limits and aggressive  stick settings and quick inputs.

 

I may have to spend a day just testing out different stick settings ?
