HUNTERKILLER982 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 im having trouble setting up my controls for battle of stalingrad especially when it comes to the trimming does anyone have anu suggestions
Sokol1 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Set controls is a personal matter, but using a joystick with "few "buttons, you need prioritize things. Trigger and one button accessible for your thumb set for MG and cannon (primary weapons). Rockets/bombs (secondary weapons) dont consider priority, because is used only for seconds in each flight - If you are not shot down before. So the same button set for cannon can be used for rockets/bombs with a modifier (JoyToKey is fine for set this, and dont have the timing problem that HOTAS software have with BoS) and the external key act like a security cover over the rocket/bombs button. The others buttons on joy top should be reserve to control FOV change, ZOOM, center view... plus HAT for view control if you dont use some head-track. Buttons on joy base use for trims (important) and engine controls: PP, Mixture, Supercharger, Boost, Radiators... Things like landing gear, flaps, lights... are "secondary" controls, leave in keyboard unless have spare buttons. Sokol1 1
dburne Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) So the same button set for cannon can be used for rockets/bombs with a modifier (JoyToKey is fine for set this, and dont have the timing problem that HOTAS software have with BoS) Actually most good HOTAS software can deal with that, same as JoyToKey. The issue is not so much the HOTAS software, the issue is BOS controller setup will not recognize two simultaneous key presses, as a combo key press. Some other sims do recognize it fine. Not all, but some do. I really wish the devs had of recognized that and been able to do something to correct it, but the only comment I saw them make on it was it was a likely a problem with some controllers software... but I guess that is a chicken or egg type of thing... All that is needed from the software, whichever one chooses to use, is to introduce a slight delay between the key presses. I assigned a 50ms delay between my combo key presses in the TARGET software for my Warthog, and they work just fine. Edited July 4, 2014 by dburnette
Sokol1 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 All that is needed from the software, whichever one chooses to use, is to introduce a slight delay between the key presses. I assigned a 50ms delay between my combo key presses in the TARGET software for my Warthog, and they work just fine. With JoyTokey (and Xpadder) you dont need play with delays. Just set in JoyToKey one button to press one modifier key - limited in BoS to Windows modifier keys - (e.g.) LAlt. In game set (example): Joy button 2 = fire cannons Alt+Joy button 2 = drop bombs/fire rockets (since the game does not yet allow individual commands for both - the "less keys is better"...?). Pressing button 2 you fire cannons, pressing and holding the button set for send LAlt and clicking in button 2 drop bombs/fire rockets. Other possibility to deal with this (one button, two functions) with JoyToKey is: Set one joy button to send a keys press if "clicked", e.g. "-" and send another keys press if "pressed", e.g. "+" In game set "-" to drop bombs/fire rockets and "+" to fire cannon. The default time that differentiate "clicks" from "press" is 500miliseconds - adjustable. And you can alter JoytoKey settings "on the fly", pause the game, type Alt+Tab go to Windows, reconfigure JoyToKey, return to game and use the new setting. Start JoyToKey after start the game if forget. And JoyToKey dont eventually freeze your games or give you BSD. Of course is indicate for people with simple joysticks, not high end HOTAS. Sokol1
HUNTERKILLER982 Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 I just really want to set up my trim but I can't figure it out its not working when I try to trim my plane I get into a game and my plane wants to go straight up
Sokol1 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) First you need know what trim (aileron, elevator/stabilizer, rudder) each plane have - there are cases of people complaining that BF 109 aileron/rudder trim dont work... Bf 109 - Stabilizer Adjust (alter the incidence of the stabilizer, the effect on the adjustment of flight is equal to a "trim tab" on elevator trailing edge). Is the only that can by set on axis, mouse scroll wheel, buttons and keys. The following planes have trim tabs - actually can by set only on keys and buttons:Ju 87 - Trim tab on elevator (left side), rudder.il-2 Sturmovik - Trim tab on elevator.LaGG-3 - Trim tab on elevator, rudder, aileron.Pe-2 - Trim tab on elevator, rudder, aileron (right side).Yak-1 - Trim tab on elevatorLa5 - Trim tab on elevator, rudder, aileronFw 190 - Trim tab on elevatorHe 111 - Trim tab on aileron, Elevator, Rudder The goal of trim is set a level flight "hands off" , so trim adjust change every time that you change the flight speed. To set trim in you joystick you need reserve 2, 4 or 6 buttons for trim function. Since you joystick have few buttons (compared to a HOTAS) maybe you should set only stabilizer adjust /elevator trim on joystick. See: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/6924-trimming-doesnt-work/?do=findComment&comment=124176 Using the above describe JoyToKey modifier key you can set this trim (and the rudder trim) on HAT - even if use HAT for camera control (POV).
