IL-2 Sturmovik does'nt find mission file

I have had a problem several times which, apparently, seems very strange ...

I build a mission with the Editor and save it, but when I launch IL-2 Sturmovik, I can't find the name and therefore can't load it. I specify that I make sure to match the name of the mission (in the Editor properties window) to that of the file.

Sometimes I have noticed that this problem arises, when I upload a mission, I modify it and save it with another name. Sometimes I see that next to the name in the Editor properties, a number appears in brackets, such as (1), as if it were an evolution of a previous one with the same name.

A little while ago, then, something happened to me, really inconceivable: I simply modified a mission with STEditor, I saved it with the same name, but when I wanted to test it, IL-2 did not find it in the directory where it was saved. Yet there is ... because STEditor is able to reload and modify it.

Have you had similar problems and what is the solution?

PS. Sometimes I solved the problem by copying the mission (all 10 files) from one folder to another, or I literally rebuilt the logic, within an existing mission and saved it keeping the name of the other mission (i.e. change the content within the same shell ..!), but it's absurd ...

Try this: Select ALL mission objects and export them as group. Then delete all items from the ME and re-import the saved group.

Patience when reinstalling this, and save (with a new name?) ...

Thanks Jollyjack for your suggestion which I will definitely try. After all, it's something similar to what I'm doing ... But they are only palliatives... attempts to give an empirical solution to a problem that shouldn't be able to exist!

I would like someone very experienced or even a developer to explain to me if the problem I described is an IL-2 bug or I am doing something wrong.

Like the idea of changing planes within a Campaign. Let's see if we can get it back on track.

First off where are you saving these missions to and how are you doing it? My guess is that you Saved or Save As... the same mission with the same name in two or more locations.

That said as long as you are able to access the mission file within the ME all is not lost.
Go into your BoX game files and create a new folder:
C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Missions\ 'Create a New Folder Here' Name it Stebas Campaign New or whatever you wish.

Open up your Campaign Mission One within the ME and change the name within the Properties window to 01_Campaign One as long as you don't have any mission named that within your game and make sure it is a Mission Type: Single
Then <Save As...> 01_Campaign One within the newly created Folder in C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Missions\.

Without doing anything else.
<File>
<Open> 01_Campaign One

Move something in the mission. Can be a Mission Begin MCU or Timer. Just change the mission in some way that doesn't effect anything and then <File> <Save>.

The Mission should now show up for you to test fly and then change what you wanted to change within the Mission.

Do the same for the remaining campaign missions changing them to 02_Campaign Two, 03_Campaign Three etc...

If you wish to keep the original names for the missions then you need to manually delete those from C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Missions\ or C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Campaigns\Kalach Pocket after you have successfully changed all the originals using the procedures above.

Then of course <Save As...> the new, changed ones with the names you wish.

Remembering to make them Mission Type: Campaign to your C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Campaigns\Kalach Pocket

I would caution against using Exclamation Points or other characters for the Mission Names. I believe in one of the Dev Diaries it lays out how to make a Campaign it lists characters that may cause problems.

Good Luck with your Campaign.

Other than the solution Tx_Tip gives above, you may need to delete file mtreecache.eng in the \data folder of the game and then save your missions. If that does not work, try deleting ctreecache.eng in /data and then save your missions. Both files are automatically recreated when you start the game.

Also, note that you will not see missions in which the player plane is one that you do not own.

Thank Tx_TIp and Jim TM for your valuable suggestions.

I immediately tried the easiest and fastest thing, which is to delete the files suggested by Jim, but unfortunately, without getting the desired result.

Now I reserve the right to try the action suggested by Tip.

In the meantime, however, by dint of attempts, I managed to save the first files on another folder, where - even with the same title - IL-2 can see and load them, after I have possibly modified them. I hope I can go on like this ...

PS. However, I still do not understand why a simulator as advanced as IL-2 Sturmovik BoX could have such ridiculous problems ... right from the first steps with a PC, we are taught that files are saved in two ways, SAVE, with the same name , and SAVE AS to create a file with a different name ... here it seems to me that they are slipping on a banana peel ...
