Chief_Mouser Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) Can we have this instead? The Arado Ar 232 'Tatzelwurm'. What a beauty. Unfortunately only ten twin-engined and ten four-engined made. Edited September 22, 2021 by 216th_Cat 4 6 1
40plus Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Golden age of aviation design. They through every bizarre concept at the wall and just wait to see what stuck. Then they put guns on it. 1
[F.Circus]FrangibleCover Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 An aircraft I have always absolutely loved, and actually a very interesting design in its completely daft way. Really it's a shame the Germans came up with it, they'd have been absolutely brilliant in the CBI theatre.
AndyJWest Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 And of course, it's an Arado. I expect the weird undercarriage was only added because it looked to conventional without it. ?

Hardly anybody but us WWII geeks ever heard of it, one version could have four engines (the B-17 would be developed first), and too few made to make it profitable to develop. I do wish however that the Arado Ar 196 would be made. God knows we, (well I at least), need a float plane to fly. ? 2
oc2209 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Interesting design, but that tail looks like it wants to snap off at the enemy's earliest convenience. I guess you could say it's such a narrow target it's unlikely to be hit... except by flak, which isn't bound by the same logic as air-to-air shooting probabilities.
Enceladus828 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 It's too late to replace the Arado 234 with the Arado 232 as the 3D model for the former has already been made: Dev blog #286 / IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles (il2sturmovik.com) Though the Arado 232 looks like a cool plane, more people would be interested in flying the Arado 234. 1 1
Rjel Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Is that the plane in this guncam clip from Fight For The Sky? I've always wondered what it was.

It does make it clear how hard it must've been to identify E/A in the heat of battle.

III/JG53Frankyboy Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 a Transporter instead of a Bomber..... not realy interested. 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 While technically interesting, this will likely remain in the shadows of forgotten rarities for good. If we ever get to the point where adding several transport aircraft per nation makes sense it might be an attractive candidate. Also the name I know it under of is ,,Tausendfüßler" (milipede).
Lusekofte Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 It was actually a good transporter. 4 engines made it less underpowered. The undercarriage could be lowered so loading would be easier. I love to have this. If Germany had been a super power. Their designs would have been gold. But when they really needed supply there where no way to get it safely delivered 1
