Dear Comrades,

I cannot stand Steam any more. It takes hours to download and install an update.

How can I get rid of Steam and start the game and get next updates directly without using Steam any more?

Thanks

Re-buy the modules you did not buy on Steam here. I keep thinking about buying BoS here (I bought all the other modules) on one of the sales to get the updates a tad quicker, but in general Steam has worked well for me.

irony...having BoS on steam saved me a lot of trouble when Xsolla started flagging my paypal as suspicious (even tho I've bought things through them since 2015)

Steam doesnt question my money anymore :P

Isn't there a .exe or sth to start the ga.e without Steam?

If any were bought from steam, you won't see them when you run the .exe

I bought most of mine from IL2 site but Stalingrad I got from Steam. If I run from the .exe, I don't get Stalingrad or planes associated with it.

Just sayin'

Considering all the constant posts I see here, and on other forums, concerning the never ending list of problems encountered using Steam I am glad I have avoided Steam all these years! I can see why they are big in the world of PC and console gaming being a one-stop venue for a huge list of games, but are the constant hassles  really worth it? I personally have avoided Steam primarily due to the high costs they charge game developers for the "privilege" of posting their wares on Steam. I don't begrudge them for making money on their enterprise, just for being a little greedier than need be and a bit lackluster in their support for gamers and developers alike considering the gads of money they are making off everyone.

I'd rather see all my money go straight to the developers and producers of the sims I enjoy and prefer the simplicity of playing my sims and games without having the added distraction of jumping through their hoops before I hit the play button. So I'm happy I bought all my stuff straight up from Jason and crew. Sorry I know this is not a helpful addition to this thread, but maybe someone here can help you find a way around it, though I think once you've bought a product via Steam you're kind of stuck with this conundrum.

I'm having the same trouble with Xsolla right now, too.  I have to write to them each time I want to buy something here for them to reset my account as not suspicious.  But after any purchase, Xsolla sets my account back to fraud status where I can't make PayPal or credit card purchases.  And I have no idea why.  I've even asked them to explain why, but they won't.  My credit score is over 800, I own my home free and clear, but I can't buy IL-2 Great Battles content through Xsolla without jumping through hoops with them.

I'm glad to know it's not just me ?

IMHO, that's not entirely fair to Steam. Now, I'm not suggesting that Steam is flawless. I also definitely applaud buying products directly from the IL2 site, which I've done many times as you can see from my badges.

But you're implying that Steam is a bugged product that just bring a "never ending list of problems" to IL2 users. Personally, I've never had any problem with IL2 updates from Steam, and overall I've seen no indication on the forum that Steam users encounter more problems than "stock IL2" users. Regarding game updates, I've seen at least once that my Steam IL2 install started updating even before the update was posted on the forums. My download speed is also usually only limited by my ISP speed. Regarding bugs, I've never had a single one that could be traced to Steam, while Steam's "validate game files" feature has fixed bugs in IL2 more than once. One definite advantage is IL2 updating in the background, instead of having to wait for it when I want to boot up the game. Lastly, VR (which I use) requires SteamVR, which requires Steam, so without Steam no VR.

Whether Steam is a positive or a negative addition to IL2 depends on the person. I can imagine that for some localities or ISPs, "stock" IL2 works better than Steam, or the other way around. Similarly, if you're already a Steam user, I would recommend to buy BoS on Steam (and then other products on the IL2 site). If you don't use Steam already, you're probably better off buying from the IL2 site. It all boils down to the value you attach to the advantages and disadvantages that Steam offers, and that's a personal thing.
