BrockRetro Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 This is the first issue I've had with IL-2 since I've began playing. After today's steam update. (I finished update at 3:14pm EST according to steam) I tried to load into IL-2 and once I finished loading, and was about to enter the hangar.. the game would crash. No notice, no crash report, no way to assess and debug the root cause of the crash. So I tried to validate the files. That's when I had 7 files that needed to be validated. Thinking this was my issue I finished the file validation and proceeded to try and launch again. Same story.. finished loading screen, about to enter the hangar... and crash. After this, I tried once more to validate files through stream, I was met with a single file that was validated. After that same process and no luck. After that I went to a discord server, and realized that I was not alone with my issues, many others were having the same issue. We came up with a work around, and had to run the application in administrator mode. After that, the game was able to launch properly, but those with steam content , realized that our only content available was the IL-2 official store content. After we signed in on the game(had to enter username and password launching as administrator), we were able to exit the game, launch the steam version, and we were prompted to re-connect the accounts. After this connection the game would have all paid DLC content accessible through the steam launcher. I thought that was the last of the problems, but upon loading into a multiplayer server, I immediately noticed around a 30% reduction in framerate as well as constant micro-stutters, of around 2 second intervals. I pulled up task manager to assess if there was an issue, but everything seemed fine. Nothing atypical from the performance readings in task manager. I'm quite sure whatever update occurred today is responsible for this issue. I flew earlier today, before the update, and all was well. After the issue above, the game is pretty much unplayable unfortunately. I am also not the only one with this issue, at least 4 other users have reported the same side effects almost exactly as I have expressed above. Also I cross-referenced my issues with other servers, I was getting the constant 2 second micro-stutter in 3 servers I tested (FVP, CB Duel, and Berloga). I did this to mitigate the fact that it was a single servers performance. I hope that this will be enough information to explain the issues I, as well as others are having. Hope this will be remedied soon, as currently it is unplayable for myself. Thanks! -Brock Retro
BrockRetro Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 So after some troubleshooting, I re-verified my game files again. It said I was missing 1 file.. so I went through the process and tried to join multiplayer. Stutters were still there! SOOOO I did the logical thing and tried to verify AGAIN... It was the same message: 1 file verified... so after I was informed that I was all good... I verified once more! To verify the verify! It said all files were good, there were no issues. Loaded up.. and I was fine. So I'm not quite sure what was causing the erroneous behavior in the updates. Usually I can troubleshoot these things pretty well if I'm able to get some idea of where the issue is in the directory. It's just a hope and prayer really trying to troubleshoot without any logs or a crash report. Anyway... hope this helps some of you who have been having issues today. Just try to verify on steam until you are left with no files updated. Probably the jankiest troubleshooting I've ever done, just happy the game is playable again. 1
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 This happens to me randomly after various game, windows, steamvr, and wmr updates. Very frustrating, but reinstalling the game always fixes it.
NoelGallagher Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) i reinstall the game becasue of this and the problem is still there it happnes in singleplayer too 20 to 30fps loss and stuttering even on the main menu screen i used to mornitor the grphic usage while i play the game before this i mean literally yesterday GPU usage hit 100% almost all the time but after this it only hits 60% to 70% (no windows update nor any kind of change in driver or anything) so it must be steam - il-2 server related porblem Edited September 20, 2021 by NoelGallagher
NoelGallagher Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 formatting windows helps to fix it LOL 2
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Man, oh man: after reinstalling the game and then the recent update, the game is stuttering so bad (even in QMB 1 vs. 1) for me it is almost unplayable. With the same graphics settings I've used for months--that allowed me to basically hold 90 fps in vr at all times--I am seeing dips into the 50s and 60s. What gives? The game is so choppy. I'm seeing both micro and macro stuttering. I rolled back my nivida drivers, am running the most recently updated Windows 11 build, latest steamvr open beta, and have a machine in good order. I am using a reverb g2 at only around ~2400x2400 per eye with the FSR upscaling mod set to .77 I believe. My specs: Ryzen 5600X@ 4.85 GHZ (liquid cooled so it stays cool) RTX 3080 FE 32 GB Ram in 4x8gb configuration @ 3800MHZ 1 TB SSD WIFI 6 1

I'm curious if your OpenVR file for FSR was overwritten by the update. Han stated developers were aware of a graphics problem that caused stutters when firing weapons and expect to have a hot fix soon.

I can reinstall the mod though as it's easy. This stuttering was mainly when flying low.
BBAS_Tiki_Joe Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 I'm having the same issues after the last update, I'm running: Valve Index 3080 RTX I9-10900kf 32GB Ram I have not touched my settings and my frames seem the same(I'm not seeing any large fluctuations there) but I'm getting a ton of Micro stuttering in MP, and my ongoing SP career.
TheDome Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 I also have this issue, but weirdly if I stick to multiplayer it's fine but if I change to single player it comes back in both single and multi player. And the only way to resolve for me is to reboot and verify files on steam. Then the issue is solved until I touch single player again.
BrockRetro Posted September 23, 2021 Author Posted September 23, 2021 If you are using steam client, then I would really recommend running that file verification steam provides. If you run that, and all is well, might want to try that workaround that a few of us did. Right now the game is running well for me, with the exception of the stutters I get after a few hours playing. Memory leak I suppose. Other than that, runs really well. Workaround: (if you want to call it that) If you still have the issue and run steam client, try to verify files. If problem insists, then go to where you have IL-2 installed and try to run it in admin mode, once you've signed back into the account in admin mode, close game and try to run the steam version again. Re-link your steam account to the IL-2 account, then try to verify once again. Essentially, once I had re-linked my accounts and re-verified my files through steam, my stutters stopped. I know it's not really the best method here, but with no way of knowing where the issue is, it's really had to pinpoint a solution. Best of luck, I know how frustrating it is to have those stutters. I will lay out my issues and how I resolved them below, just to further explain it as best as I can. Small update for IL-2 IL-2 would crash on launch right before entering hangar. No crash report or troubleshooting options(no code to run to find problem area) Ran steam verify file integrity troubleshooter, re-acquired 7 files. Launched game in Administrator mode (ran IL-2 application) Loaded into hangar, signed into account. (Only had Normandy, I used steam for all other purchases) Logged out of game, and Launched through the Steam Library Re-linked my IL-2 account to my Steam account in order to regain access to all DLC purchases on steam) Loaded into 3 MP servers, all had 2-3 second interval micro-stutters, and FPS was down 20-30% on average. Re-verified steam ( 1 file was missing) Loaded back up, logged into MP and still had persisting issues. Closed game and ran the verify file integrity troubleshooter again (1 file) I then ran the troubleshooter again ( it stated 0 files) Launched IL-2, and I was no longer experiencing the micro stutters. So as you can see, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, why my problem is actually fixed. I think normally this would just be running in circles with the constant verifying... but it was really my only option without a crash report, so yeah. Hope that may help some others. I think there was just an issue before they dropped this update. I hope you all can get it working, main thing is. Make sure you have all your files verified through steam. If you use steam. GL Also, I don't run VR, so not sure if the new update impacts VR > Panel.
